Canon EOS 80D

Canon's all-new EOS 80D follows the recent addition of the of the hotly anticipated 1DX Mark to the professional EOS roster and is yet another sign the firm's turning its attention squarely back to the enthusiast market. The camera succeeds the EOS 70D...

Canon EOS 80D review

Canon's new 80D looks great on paper, and the real thing's not too shabby either

24Mp sensor resolves detail well ; Fast and effective AF system ; Excellent screen

APS-C format rather than full-frame ; Complex AF system requires time to master ; Quick Menu not customisable

Canon has created an excellent camera for enthusiast photographers that makes a worthwhile upgrade from the 70D. It's well built, with sensibly arranged controls, and has good ergonomics and an extensive feature set. Most importantly, the image quality...

Canon EOS 80D review: The mid-range master

If you're looking to drop a four-figure wedge of cash of a mid-range DSLR - one that'll last you for a good stretch of time - then Canon is one of the names that so often floats to the surface; the crema on the coffee, if you will. And in the 80D that...

Continuous autofocus unparalleled at this level, 100% optical finder (finally), fast performance and significant buffer, decent image quality throughout, vari-angle touchscreen (with speedy live view)

No 4K video, no second SD slot, viewfinder flare from direct light sources, off-centre 1-point AF not always perfect, no speed increase over 70D, finish looks plasticky

The Canon EOS 80D takes almost everything that was missing or not quite up to scratch in the already impressive 70D and sets it right. Save for a second SD card slot and absence of 4K video there's not a whole lot missing in this mid-range master.

Canon EOS 80D review

Imagine a camera that does all the hard work for you. Well, Canon's only gone and made one

Superb focusing in all modes ; Excellent image quality ; Wi-Fi and app features actually work ; Swivelling touchscreen and plenty of controls

Bigger than a non-DSLR (obviously) ; Pricey ; No 4K video

The 80D is the do-it-all camera that does it all for you. We're smitten

Canon EOS 80D review: The Canon 80D delivers on faster focus

Faster than its predecessor and capable of better image quality, this enthusiast dSLR provides just what you'd expect from a Canon.

The Canon EOS 80D is fast, and if you play with the settings can produce excellent photo and video quality.

The automatic white balance isn't very good, and it doesn't have a terribly broad set of features.

With better performance and photo quality than the 70D, the Canon EOS 80D is worth the upgrade, but it's got a lot of competition for the money.

Excellent image quality ; Improve noise performance ; Excellent focus and shutter response speeds ; Live view focus and shutter response is equally fast ; Auto White Balance options ; 3inch vari-angle touch-screen ; Larger 100% view viewfinder ;...

No auto panoramic shooting mode ; Some competitors at this price point offer quicker continuous shooting

The Canon EOS 80D is a welcome update to the EOS 70D, and offers some of the features the original camera was lacking, with a headphone socket, improved focus system, and larger optical viewfinder. As part of the Canon EOS system, there is access to an...

If you are into nature and sports photography and can't stomach the price of Canon's EOS 7D Mark 2, the Canon EOS 80D is a very good compromise.

Canon EOS 80D

Following in the footsteps of the well received 70D, its successor, the 80D manages to impress.

Excellent autofocus system, Improved sensor, Compact sensor, Wi-Fi and NFC onboard

Small command wheel, Expensive

On the surface, one may question whether the 80D is a big enough step up from the now three years old 70D. However, to my mind it is when you start adding up the several changes together that it becomes clearer that the 80D is a worthy successor to the...

Canon EOS 80D review

Unbeatable autofocus puts Canon's EOS 80D at the top of its class for video.

The 80D is a proper upgrade to the 70D, and retains the Editors’ Choice. It may not look different, but there are significant improvements under the hood, namely the autofocusing, superior stills, and Full HD videos that are top-notch. The 80D is a...
