Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Why the Mark III is the best 5D model yet...

Vastly improved AF module ; Addition of 'headphones in' socket ; Enhanced ISO range/performance ; Faster DIGIC 5+ processor ; Built like a tank ; Exceptional image quality ; Fantastic video performance

Canon EOS 5D Mark III review

One of the best full-frame DSLRs out there

Excellent HDR mode ; Detailed raw and JPG files ; High quality images ; Low noise

Complicated AF system ; A bit pricey

It may have been replaced by the Mark IV, but the Mark III is still a great choice for those after a feature-packed full-frame DSLR.

Canon EOS 5D MK III

After Nikon's D90, it felt like the crown of video would go to that firm. But, surprisingly, it was Canon that swooped in, and hoovered up the newly established video-from-SLR market. The D90 was never able to produce video sufficient for professional...

Stills are beautiful, capable of producing superb video, lightning-fast auto-focus, rapid shooting, solidly built

No "clean" HDMI output, buttons to control camera settings take some getting used to, we'd love to see some more high frame-rate modes

As with the Nikon D800, there’s little bad to say about the latest 5D. This does feel like a camera aimed at the film-maker, but at no point does it ever feel that Canon has compromised on the quality of stills it produces. Indeed, our first instinct...

Hands-on: Canon EOS 5D Mark III review - Pocket-lint

Canon has been rather tight-lipped about the EOS 5D Mk III - the company's follow up to the mightily successful 5D Mk II – before its official launch

Canon EOS 5D Mark III review

Canon has pulled out every proverbial stop for the EOS 5D Mark III. The sensor is new and was designed specifically for this model. It's got more auto-focus points, an improved movie mode and it's faster and more responsive all round.

Image quality; Build; Movie clarity; Improvements over predecessor.

None.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III represents a significant advance over its predecessor. It's fast, flexible and can't be faulted on image or video quality. It's a well-specced piece of kit at a reasonable cost (the price below is for the body only). The Mark...

Canon EOS 5D Mark III review

  (Rating Hidden)

Canon's EOS 5D was the first vaguely affordable full-frame DSLR and became one of the must-have cameras for professional and semi-pro photographers. The EOS 5D Mark III isn't quite so revolutionary, but it promises a big step up from the EOS 5D Mark...

Canon DSLR EOS 5D Mark III

Having just looked at a small DSLR unit, this is a bigger one with a large lens, certainly not something to fit in a pocket and definitely something to attach the neck strap to unless of course you are into a tough fitness regime when it may not seem...

The Canon EOS 5D DSLR measures 23x11.5x18.5 when closed, fully extend the 24-105mm lens I was sent and this increases the last figure to 23cm. The weight is just over 1500grams with neck strap attached. While I am always as guilty as most to not...

Canon EOS 5D Mark III review

It was always going to be a challenge to replace the EOS 5D Mark II. Thankfully, Canon has been sensible with its upgrade, choosing to focus on improving its weaker areas. So, while the resolution is largely unchanged in the 5D Mark III, the sensor's...

Canon EOS 5D Mark III review: Serious piece of kit, but comes at a serious price

Not everyone will be able to afford a 5D Mark III, but if you're serious about movie making on a budget then this is a serious piece of kit via which to do it

Setting a new benchmark for amateur and independent film makers, affordable alternative to pro broadcast cameras, rock solid workhorse-like build

Pricey if you don’t require broadcast quality video, slight delay whilst mirror mechanism flips out of the way before video recording can commence, clip duration limited to just under 30 minutes as it’s a camera not a camcorder

Capturing video at 1920x1080 pixels and 29.97 frames per second, admittedly shooting with a DSLR isn’t quite as smooth or straightforward from the get go as on a regular camcorder or even compact system camera. This is because recording begins after...
