Intel NUC Kit NUC5i3RYK (Core i3-5010U) Review

Intel's latest NUCs have landed and they're powered by Broadwell

With a price tag of £234, the NUC5i3RYK kit isn't likely to leave you much change from £300 once you've factored in an M.2 SSD and memory. However, the Core i3 proved to be a match for previous generation Core i5-based NUCs in many of our tests and...

Intel NUC5i3RYK Mini PC (Broadwell Core i3-5010U) Review

Cunning. Intel's NUC5iRYK configured with a Broadwell Core i3 is a mini-PC based on laptop hardware. It hardly exhibited any weaknesses in the test, but gaming is not one of its strengths.

Compact build, Small power supply unit, Interfaces, Maintenance / upgrade options

Performance throttling during high graphics and processor load, Sensitive high-gloss upper side

Like in the previous test of the Core i5 NUC, we can draw a positive conclusion for the Core i3 version in the smaller casing (RYK). The little dwarf scores with its compact casing, appealing design, and good build. The components are easy to access...

Small form factor, reasonably quick, easy to set up.Perhaps more suited as a media server.

Space for only one m.2 ssd. Other models allow one additional 2.5" ssd/hdd/hybrid.

Amazing design achievement to pack equivalent of a medium spec desktop into 4x4x1 inch box.

Intel's online linux support could be better - patchy at best, given it's a barebones system and linux will be OS of choice for many.

Ultra Compact Silent

Compactness comes with a price It proved impossible to install a Linux OS (I tried several, through different ways) with my rather limited knowledge (I ended up buying windows 10). Many users managed to install Linux, just do your homework before you...

The product is designed wrong for the wifi

Everything works fine if you don't need wifi

The wifi works, but the antenna is stuck under the motherboard. I did numerous speed tests and could only get a few Mbps at best. Then I took it apart and had the antenna hanging out of the box, hey presto, lightning fast internet! So I can either use...

Easy and awesome. No hiccups.

I ordered a VESA side-mount and mounted the NUC on the back of a monitor with internal speakers and wall-mounted the whole shebang with wireless keyboard and mouse for my less-than-technical mother-in-law. for about $600 with OS and monitor. The system...

Fast setup. Installed two RAM chips and M2 SSD, turned it on and loaded Windows 10 from USB without any drama. literally 20 minutes from opening boxes to browsing on WiFi. Zero drivers needed, though I did have them ready to go, downloaded from Intel's...

The slightly taller version with the 2.5" SSD would be cheaper to build because the 2.5" drives are cheaper per gig.
