Intel Compute Stick review (2016): Second time's the charm

I had high hopes for Intel's original Compute Stick, but it ended up being a massive disappointment. Sure, it was cool to have a fully functional computer the size of a few thumb drives. But it was awfully slow and limited in some truly baffling ways...

Powerful enough for most computing tasks ; Inexpensive ; Very portable

2GB of RAM limits multi-tasking ; Still needs to be plugged into an AC adapter

Intel's new Compute Stick bundles just about everything you'd need for a basic computer into a compact, inexpensive package. And unlike its predecessor, it works.

Impressively tiny ; Affordable ; Makes a great streaming media device

Poor performance for general computing ; Dedicated streaming devices are more intuitive

Intel Compute Stick review: Windows 10 for your TV

Why wouldn't you want an entire Windows computer on a tiny little stick? As someone who uses a MacBook day in and day out, the idea of $159 Intel's Compute Stick, a Windows 10 PC shrunken down to...

Super portable ; Plugs into any display with an HDMI port ; Runs full Windows 10 Home

2GB of RAM limits multitasking ; 32GB of built-in storage ; Can create a mess of wires

Intel Compute Stick (2016) review: Though improved, it still lacks mass appeal

For $159, the Intel Compute Stick is a pretty good deal. You get a full license for Windows 10 Home and a PC that's ready to go out of the box—just add a display, a mouse, and a keyboard to get started. And unlike Google's stick computing product, the...

Incredibly affordable Windows PC ; Improves on previous generation with addition of a second USB port ; Highly portable

Slower performance ; Limited utility

Intel Compute Stick (2016) review

Nearly every television, every spare computer monitor, or even projectors with HDMI inputs can now be transformed into an instant Windows 10 desktop computer, all with a little sleight of hand. The trick is to palm one of the new generation of...

The pocket-size Intel Compute Stick adds several improvements for its second generation, and it works great for casual Web surfing and HD media streaming.

Very little storage, so installing apps or downloading movies is difficult. Despite the streamlined design, extra cables and adapters make for a tangled presentation.

Intel's revamped Compute Stick promises a computer in every pocket, just be prepared for an entry-level experience, although it's still fine for email, social media and movies.

Intel Compute Stick ( 2016)

And these micro-size computers have certainly put a new meaning to to the idea of handheld computing. Starting with the original Computer Stick, a surprise hit at CES 2015 and now modestly updated for 2016, you could finally squeeze a full-featured...

gameing pc

with this chip haveing max power supply and cooling unlike most of the atom chips stuck on a non cooling intergraded bored "tablet" with power attached to a battery restraining it too only sip. this can go further almost to an excellent gameing PC for...

only 2gbs of RAM and small cache. needs to go further with these but just a little. they are kinda pricey for what they are

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Deployed over 50 with only minor issues

I used 50-60 of these for a low-cost digital signage solution to loop video, display web content, etc. Out of all of those, we never had a complete device failure. A couple of units in spots with deficient wireless signal would lose connectivity once...

- Compact - Low power consumption - Well suited to web browsing - Inexpensive

- Wireless signal strength is only decent - Only one USB - Requires 1A to boot properly (1.5 ideal) - More than most TVs supply - Limited to 32 GB of internal storage and 2 GB of RAM
