Gateway FX6831-01 review: Gateway FX6831-01

Gateway FX6831-01

Convenient hard-drive access through the front panel; best features for the dollar in its price range; strong gaming performance; relatively power efficient for a gaming PC.

Red external lighting not for everyone; limited room for expansion.

Don't let the Gateway FX6831-01's case distract you from the fact that this is a fast, aggressively priced gaming PC with some standout features. We wouldn't recommend this system to a generalist consumer or those with discriminating opinions about...

Gateway FX6831-03

The Gateway FX6831-03 has plenty of buzz-worthy technology in it, but is it worth the money?

Large amount of memory. Quick Core i7 power. Gaming prowess. Blu-ray drive. Externally accessible hard drive bays. Two eSATA ports.

Bloatware. Cheaper feeling plastics. Rest of system is not tool-less. Only 60-day subscription to Norton Internet Security updates.

Gateway FX6831-03

The Gateway FX6831-03 is in many ways a match for one of the power PC category's best price-for-performance systems, the Micro Express MicroFlex 95B. But while the systems share similar performance characteristics, the FX6831-03 surpasses the 95B in...

Absurd amount of memory ; Comprehensive connectivity

Limited upgradability ; Reducing the memory could reduce the price

This excellent buy in the Performance PC category isn't a show-stopper, but its fast speeds and high-definition support combine to deliver a great performance when it counts.

Gateway FX6831-01

The system has a plethora of other connection ports, including two eSATA ports (for faster external hard drives), a FireWire port, eight USB 2.0 ports (including the top-mounted ones), two DVI ports, a HDMI port, and a DisplayPort for connecting to...

High-end performance in a mid-priced gaming desktop. ATI Radeon HD 5850 graphics. Easily upgradeable hard drive bays. 750W power supply

Plastic casing gives the desktop a cheap look. Only 60-day trial subscription to Norton Internet Security. Bloatware. Only one graphics card slot

The Gateway FX6831-01 is a well-priced hardcore gaming desktop. It has a quad core power processor and ATI graphics you'll need to get your game on, and includes lots of room to grow if you decide to upgrade in the future. The FX6831-01 shows that most...

Gateway FX 6831-03 Gaming Desktop PC Review

Its quad-core Intel Core i7 860 processor has plenty of power to spare, even for the most demanding of tasks, and you will likely never run low on memory with the included 16GB of RAM. The Seagate 1.5 TB 7200 RPM hard drive is speedy enough for a...

Terrible PSU

Overall it's a great computer. I am disappointed that they would choose to put in such a unreliable PSU though.

This comp runs everything I thought to throw at it great. It does come with some bloatware, but thats to be expected with a pre-built. Plays games at max settings no problem and has them looking beautiful

After I finally get everything transfered from my old HDD to this comp my PSU went out on me after all of 20 hours of use. Have to take the comp back and get it replaced now (purchased at a different retailer not from newegg)

Good PC for the money

After a month of ownership the DVD drive kept opening up on its own. I'm not going to fault Gateway for this, since the same HW fault could happen on any PC. I registered my PC on Gateway's website and through rather exhaustive email troubleshooting,...

Fast system. Runs quiet. Case looks nice. Easily accessible front panel to add another HDD. Gateway tech support is responsive and friendly

The case itself is difficult to get open, especially if you need to replace something on the front panel. There is no documentation on the website for taking apart this unique case, so you have to play with it for a while to line all the holes back up...

Good Enough...Could be better

Well I know by now you are probably tired of reading my long review but i just wanted to make things clear before you buy. 1700$ is a lot to spend on one item. Overall Gateway(Owned by Acer) makes some quality computers. o! and i forgot to mention in...

1.Fast ; 2.Large Capacity HD ; 3.Sweet Graphics Card ; 4.Cool Features ; I would like to start off by saying this is a very good computer for the price but there is a couple cons (but ill get to that later). First some people may not know that this has...

Hmmmmm....Well for one its not the best computer out there. Funny? You would think that for 1700$ you could have the best of the best...The processor is a little slower than it should be. They could have out the newer models of the Intel I7 in this...
