Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra

The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra isn't a perfect crack at a new idea—a business desktop with the PC bits built into the neck of its display—but it's an appealing concept that saves space, is easily manageable, and is likely here to stay.

Clever space-saving design with essentially zero footprint. Toolless access for installation and maintenance. Options to include various stands, monitors. Can support up to three displays.

So-so performance in test configuration. Somewhat tricky-to-access port layout. Can get more value out of traditional towers, all-in-one PCs.

Bottom Line: The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra isn't a perfect crack at a new idea—a business desktop with the PC bits built into the neck of its display—but it's an appealing concept that saves space, is easily manageable, and is likely here to stay.

Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra review

The Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra is a new take on the office desktop that uses a capable mini PC to give businesses the clean look of an all-in-one computer with more modularity than ever before.

Great performance ; Mini PC meets All-in-One desktop ; Excellent port selection ; Dizzying number of configurations and coverage plans

Locks you into a new, untried ecosystem ; Setup is a pain

But as a mini PC, the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra is a strong contender for our favorite office mini PC, thanks to its stellar performance and business-friendly design. The ability to swap out the PC or the display while keeping the same zero-footprint...

Dell OptiPlex 7070 Ultra is a modular, upgradeable all-in-one desktop

All-in-one desktops can save some space by placing the guts of a desktop computer into the back of a PC monitor. But that can also be a pricey solution, because when it comes time to upgrade to a more powerful PC, you also have to replace what may be a...

Dell created an entirely new form factor that allows you to use existing displays. Incidentally, Dell showed me an early version of its modular PC several weeks before HP introduced the Mini-in-One, but Dell wasn’t allowing journalists to take pictures...
