LaCie FireWire Speakers review

Appealing looks, but the sound lacks punch

Superb Mac aesthetics ; Reduce desktop clutter ; Good for close-range listening ; Clear and detailed sound up close

Lack real punch ; Bit pricey

Fantastic to look at and a perfect companion for an iMac, but their inflexible positioning is a drawback

LaCie FireWire Speakers

LaCie, like Apple, puts a premium on good design. So when LaCie set about making these FireWire desktop speakers, it should come as no surprise that design luminary Neil Poulton was called in to do the job

Impressive maximum quality, Comfortable and easy to use, Attractive price, Superb Mac aesthetics, Reduce desktop clutter, Good for close-range listening, Clear and detailed sound up close

Only AV outputs, Doesn't do that will in artificial light, Lack real punch, Bit pricey

Fantastic to look at and a perfect companion for an iMac, but their inflexible positioning is a drawback

LaCie FireWire speakers

Looking like they've been plucked from the deck of a cruise ship, LaCie's FireWire speakers sound great, but are best suited to party animals who like a lot of volume.

Sleek and sexy. Few cables. Powerful sound, no tinniness.

May require adjustments that aren't mentioned in the manual. High volume. No visual volume indicator.

They look and sound great, but are best suited to party animals who like a lot of volume.

LaCie FireWire Speakers

So I started iTunes, kicked off The Beatles LOVE soundtrack, and was ready to find out why. Music came pouring from my rather good Sony desktop speakers, which I immediately unplugged. I knew what they sounded like. Audio switched to the rather poor...

I bought these speakers for my Macbook. Fab. Now I have a new Macbook and it doesn't have a Firewire port. So how can I connect them? Useless or not? Your call

Great looks, not so great sound

I bought these speakers for my G5 and they really do look stylish, however, the BIG let down is the sound, very tinny, no range, no bass.

Light, 1394 audio keeps traffic of the USB bus

Ugly as one would be expect them to be

Consumer review (newegg.com)

Overall good, but not without problems.

If you're gonna get these speakers, get the Firewire model and not the USB. The USB ones are a lot quieter as USB can't deliver as much power as Firewire can.

Absolutely gorgeous, look great in any setup ; After raising the lows in the equalizer, these sound great. While obviously they won't compare to dedicated 2.1 systems with a huge subwoofer etc, for what they are, they sound great ; No brick, definitely...

HISSSSSSS. No seriously. You won't notice it when something is playing, but when no sound is coming out and they're just standing there, you can hear a hiss coming out of them. As theres no controls on them at all, all you can do is unplug them, which...
