Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 Waterproof Camcorder

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 camcorder is not only waterproof - it can also shoot in high definition.

Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 review

Compared with footage from the best 1080p HD camcorders, the Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1's 720p HD video (at 30 frames per second) exhibits noticeably - but not disastrously - reduced resolution, sharpness, colour accuracy, and motion. The VPC-WH1's overall...

While waterproof housings are available for other small camcorders, they typically cost at least as much as the Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 does. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 is a good choice for use in and around water, including under rain and snow, and for...

Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 review

Off on a holiday that's likely to involve spending inordinate amounts of time splashing about in the surf or doing hardcore gubbins like water-skiing? Then you're going to need a waterproof camcorder to prove to your pals you've got those extreme...

Works great in extreme conditions, HD ready shots are sharp

Digital zoom at 1500x is a gimmick, 2MP stills are poor

A neat waterproof gadget, but a tad too niche to recommend over regular camcorders

Sanyo Xacti WH1

Waterproof to a depth of three metres (10ft), the WH1 is both an HD camcorder and a digital still camera. Its 1280x720 movies and 2MP stills are recorded to SD or SDHC card, and USB and HDMI outputs allow it to be connected to a computer or a...

The Sanyo WH1 delivers good quality video in a rugged and affordable (sub-£300) package but it could be even more attractive with a better photo resolution. Sanyo Xacti WH1 is tagged with Sanyo Xacti, camcorder and waterproof. Select a tag (Sanyo...

Sanyo - Xacti VPC-WH1

Those familiar with Sanyo's Xacti range will know it's not uncommon for this manufacturer to delve into the hybrid world. After all, it was producing dual cameras capable of capturing high quality movies as well as ...

A rugged, durable video and stills camera that would cope with active shooting very well. It didn't disappoint when tested underwater and operated perfectly afterwards without any leaks. With this in mind, it would be an excellent choice for...

Sanyo Xacti WH1 Review

I really enjoyed reviewing the Sanyo Xacti HD2000 so of course I was excited when Matt sent me the Xacti WH1. It's a quite affordable camera and its main feature or selling point is that it is waterproof (up to 3m) with an IPX8 (full water...

Solid/sturdy build ; Affordable price ; Compact size ; Controls easy to use ; Good battery life ; Stereo microphone ; Face chaser

Video quality underwater is poor ; Not full HD ; Only 2MP quality stills ; No video light

Sanyo VPC-WH1

There are only two reasons to buy the Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1, but they're good reasons: It's inexpensive ($400 as of 9/25/09), and it's waterproof. For some people, those two factors will offset the camera's mediocre image quality.

Waterproof down to 10 feet below the surface ; Inexpensive

Limited automatic and manual controls ; Mediocre image quality

For many users, this camcorder's waterproof housing and low price will compensate for its average image quality.
