SimplyDV Review: JVC Everio GZ-MG155 HDD camcorder

Nice handling, great picture quality overall, excellent clip management and control of video and stills. Anti-G power-off could be life-saver! FireWire 1394 socket very useful, as is the dock.

JVC's Everio range continues to thrive in the face of DVD and HDD/Hybrid camcorders from the competition - and this model will find a market among users looking for good quality, ease of use and a higher degree of functionality.

JVC Everio GZ-MG155

The sleek and intuitive Everio GZ-MG155 ($600 as of April 26, 2007) fits comfortably in your hand, in part because it stores files on a 30GB hard drive rather using a bulky DVD drive. Of course, that arrangement means that you have to transfer files to...

JVC GZ-MG155 Camcorder Review

The JVC GZ-MG155 is second from the bottom in Everio's hard disk drive camcorder line. While this year's Everios have been reliable, the GZ-MG155 has a hard time proving its worth. Outclassed by the step-up GZ-MG255 and outperformed in low light by the...

Judging the value of entry-level HDD camcorders is tricky. The benefits of the HDD media are evident - it's simple, highly portable, and spacious. But the manufacturing cost keeps even the cheapest models well above the cost of entry-level MiniDV...

good little cam

This is a wonderful little cam for the home user. But if you want to do something more than just do quick home quality vids then spend some more money and get something better. If you want to do extended shots on the road get an extra battery.

hard drive makes this very easy to use. have used dvd and tape camcorders in the past and this one is so much easier and faster to use. 30 Meg is plenty even at high quality if you have a laptop handy. Approx 7 hours on high quality

no image stabilization, zoom is way too fast and jerky to do any panning that looks decent, no viewfinder just the lcd screen. still shots are very poor, remote only works from the front of the cam, cam lighting is minimal, no audio input jack and only...

Research, Research, Research

Pure Digital format: Im kinda making up a term here. What I like about HDD camcorders is that I can transfer teh movie file (*.mod) to teh computer as pure data. I dont have to record for 30 minutes...and then inport for 30 minutes. even though this...

Pure Digital format ; A/V in and out ; Sqmall ; DV and usb ; Stills with SD cards ; Dock ; built in lens cap ; 720x480 video ; Manual shutter speed

no usb streaming ; mpeg2 ; Small It hurts to hold it - the strap is for right handed people and i broke my wrist 2 years ago and because its so small its feels uncomfortable to hold it sometimes. But i can see how even if i didn't have a preexisting...

Good on video, so-so on stills

I wish there was an image stabilization setting, or a shutter speed setting or something, I'd be willing to pay extra for it.

Takes great quality video, and almost an unlimited amount. 30 Gigs is more than enough space to hold as many videos as I need until I can get back to my computer. Haven't filled the memory yet

Since there's no image stabilization, stills can be fuzzy in still photographs unless you and your subject remain absolutely still. No actions shots with this camera

Very Nice Camcorder

Now, I know this software that this camera comes with is just bundled and isn't really suppose to blow people away. That's why they have things like Final Cut Pro, Premeire and Pinnacle out just to name a few. A software package like one of these would...

Very awesome quality in ultra fine mode. I love the fact that you can record in 16:9 widescreen. Video looks great on my 40" wide screen HD LCDTV. Very small and compact, which makes for easy travel. Plenty of features and adjustable settings. 32x...

So here goes, it records in mpeg2 format which is pretty standard, however, most media players on a computer will not play mpeg2. You will have to download some codec in order for this to play back. Also the software that is included will not let you...

Perfect for those who want great videos and pictures! ”

This camcorder has everything a beginner would want for filming and photo taking.  The price was reasonable compared to other brands such as Sony or Panasonic and the major advantage is the hard disk recording.
