This is an 8MP hybrid camera-camcorder with 2.5-inch LCD and 5x zoom lens. Movies are recorded as 640x480-pixel H.264 files at 60fps, with stereo sound. Waterproof to 1.5m. The good It's a widely accepted scientific fact that when you go on holiday,...

It’s not as Tonka toy-sturdy as Olympus’s Tough range of cameras, but the Sanyo is smoother and simpler to use, pumping out solid standard def movies and decent stills, whatever the weather. Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA8 is tagged with Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA8, Sanyo...

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA8 is waterproof up to 1.5m, plus can take still pictures too.

It can go in the water, can take stills and video

Video quality in low light not too good.

Read our review and watch the video of this amazing underwater video camera.

There's no reason to buy this camera if you're not a fan of water ? there are plenty of other cameras in Sanyo's range that will suit you just as well. But if messing about on the river is your thing, then this camera will let you capture every splash...

Matthew Sparkes goes filming with the fishes using Sanyo's latest waterproof video camera.

The latest pistol-grip Xacti is an update to the company's previous waterproof model, the VPC-CA65EW. Rather than attempting to beat the competition on storage capacity, price or even image quality, Sanyo here is instead going after the niche market of...

Can a digital movie camera that takes pictures compete with compact cameras that shoot video? We road-test Sanyo's latest moviemaker-cum-stills camera to find out

An adequate moviemaker/compact camera producing average results. The main draw here is the natty design and waterproofing capabilities

Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA8 (EXBK)

Arrrrr!

Good still image mode, slightly cheaper than the competition, one-handed design assists with swimming

Sluggish autofocus, it's only waterproof for 1.5 metres (and one hour), controls are too small

The VPC-CA8(EXBK) is a minor upgrade of Sanyo's previous waterproof model, the VPC-CA65 (EXW). Despite some improvements to image quality (particularly when it comes to still pictures), its limited underwater functionality remains unchanged.
