Sanyo's Xacti VPC-C6 marries video and still image taking in a small, stylish shell. It's got the looks - does it have the ability to match?
As with the HD1, the position of the controls takes some getting used to. All the controls are mounted on the back of the camera, and are operated with the thumb. There are two shutter buttons, one to shoot a still picture, the other to start filming a...

How about a tiny shooter that takes JPEGs and MPEG4?
Produces rich and detailed stills ; Video is smooth and stable
Puny microphone
A versatile device that's easy to carry around and fast to charge.

One of the strangest devices that we've seen in a long time, the Xacti VPC-C6E looks more like a Dictaphone that's been cross-bred with a camcorder than a digital camera. Love it or loathe it, Sanyo deserves credit for the brave design of the C6E – but...
Despite some slight grumbles about the design and video recording quality, there is much to like here, including a generous software bundle, image stabilisation and easy one-handed use. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6E is certainly different, but that's not...

We should have seen it coming: camcorders are starting to take on the capabilities of stills cameras, namely forgoing the standard miniDV tape for removable Flash SD cards. These camcorders are amazingly small and completely quiet. Gone is that little...
Small and light (can take it virtually anywhere), operates silently, easy to use, very impressive 6-megapixel stills capability, good video quality, Mac compatible
No integrated lens cap (lens smudges easily), microphone located on the side could get covered up, no bundled SD card, dock needs to be powered to import shots
For its price, this is a very good camcorder. It performs well as a stills camera and its video features, though basic, were surprisingly good. Considering its competition, the fact that it’s Mac compatible is a major bonus point.

If you've got a wired network, a bang-up-to-date Intel Viiv computer and a hard disk full of media then this is the device to use to transfer it to your TV.

Most cameras have a movie mode, but Sanyo goes the other way - it's more of a video camera with digital camera built in....

Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6
Small and lightweight; rotating LCD screen; digital image stabilizer; quick response for spur-of-the-moment shots; excellent detail in moderately low light.
Tripod mounting requires tripod head tilt; manual focus isn't continuous; slow focus in low light.
While the Sanyo Xacti VPC-C6 falls well below MiniDV quality, this pocket-size hybrid camcorder can produce acceptable video and stills.
