Panasonic HDC-SD100

Panasonic makes the move to a trio of CMOS sensors in its HDC-SD100 - and James likes the results. Now updated with Video Review.

In previous camcorder eras, Panasonic has excelled at providing models with comprehensive features for the enthusiast. Its NV-GS400 was the last great ‘prosumer’ DV model. Until the HDC-SD100 arrived, no manufacturer had combined AVCHD with quite that...

Panasonic HDC-SD100 review

Panasonic HDC-SD100

Full set of manual controls; EVF.

Middling video quality; some annoying design quirks.

Though it has a nice feature set for the price, the Panasonic HDC-SD100 doesn't deliver the quality of video you expect from an HD camcorder in its price segment.

Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD review

But the Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD uses that three-chip sensor to make up for each individual sensor's anaemic 1/6in size. There are many great features on the HDC-SD100, but image quality isn't one of them.

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 provides a great set of well-implemented tools that are in the right place at the right price. Unfortunately, poor connection placement and poor imaging make it hard to recommend this camera.

Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD

Panasonic's small and conveniently packed Panasonic HDC-SD100 HD camcorder uses a three-chip image sensor, a rarity in the consumer camcorder market.

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 provides a great set of well-implemented tools that are in the right place at the right price. Unfortunately, poor connection placement and poor imaging make it hard to recommend this camera.

Panasonic HDC-SD100

Capable of capturing full HD 1920 x 1080 video in the AVCHD format, this compact, lightweight camcorder squirrels away footage on SDHC cards. It offers manual controls to boost creativity, as well as a selection of preset scene modes for fuss-free...

Panasonic HDC-HS100 HD review

The Panasonic HDC-HS100 HD camcorder is a better camera than it's predecessor the Panasonic HDC-HS9, with improved image quality and great usability.

If the images from Panasonic's HDC-HS100 equaled the camcorder's great handling and usability, this model would be a clear winner. The HS100 provides the best controls we've seen in a small HD camcorder, but the images lag behind those of AVCHD...

This solid state camcorder couldn’t impress us more if it was made of solid gold and came with a member of the So Solid Crew singing a little ditty about how solid it was. One of the very best Flash camcorders around. Panasonic HDC-SD100EBK is tagged...

Panasonic HDC-SD100

Panasonic's SD100 is one of two new products to have been given not one but three MOS imaging sensors in place of the traditional three CCD pickups. Like its hybrid 60GB HDD/SDHC sibling, the HDC-HS100, Panasonic's new model generates full...

The Panasonic HDC-SD100 will find a welcome market among more serious users who are looking for improved functionality and control in addition to great solid-state HD recording at a reasonable price
