Panasonic HDC-HS300

James thinks the HDC-HS300 could be the camcorder release of the year. Find out why...

When Panasonic released the HDC-SD100 and HS100, we loved the company's continued dedication to ‘prosumer' features. These camcorders were not dumbed down - in fact, they regained some of the functionality of MiniDV all-time-greats like the NV-GS400....

Panasonic HDC-HS300

Panasonic's latest may be expensive but it packs an awful lot in, as James Morris discovers

The next-generation successor to Panasonic's hard disk-based HS100 ups the stakes considerably. The HDC-HS300 doubles that model's 60GB hard disk to 120GB and, as the top AVCHD recording data rate remains the same, it can store a whopping 15 hours of...

Panasonic HDC-HS300

If you can look beyond the price you'll see the best consumer HD cam on the market right now

Peerless image quality / Enthusiast-level features / Plenty of storage

Exorbitant price

The first revelation is the HS300’s image quality. Panasonic switched from three CCDs to three CMOSes with the previous range, but kept the same small 1/6in size

Panasonic HDC-HS300 review: Panasonic HDC-HS300

Panasonic HDC-HS300

High-quality video; solid performance; electronic viewfinder; full manual feature set.

Touch screen not responsive enough.

A very good prosumer HD camcorder, the Panasonic HDC-HS300 still isn't as good a deal as the similarly featured but flash-based TM300 and has the same annoying touch-screen interface.

Review: Panasonic HDC-HS300 HD camcorder

Panasonic's HDC-HS300 is capable of extraordinary video quality and offer a good range of manual options, with manual lens ring controls that are as easy to use as they are capable.

The HDC-HS300 also offers a maximum AVCHD video recording resolution of 1920-by-1080 at 17Mbps, which looks a lot lower than the 24Mbps that Canon uses is similarly-priced camcorders. The HDC-HS300 includes a lens ring for focusing, and other manual...
