GoPro HD Hero 2

The HD Hero 2 is built for extreme sports; either taking HD video (at various frame rates) or high-res images via time-lapse while mounted on a helmet, bicycle or other mode of transport.

Simple to use, easy to fit to helmets, decent end quality

Casing susceptible to moisture, extreme fisheye of lens, basic camera

A high-quality tough camera that likes a challenge

Light and compact ; Great still images ; Versatile video modes

LCD screen is an optional extra ; Some accessories poorly built ; Case liable to fogging

If you're the adventurous type then you should seriously consider taking along a GoPro HD Hero2: Outdoor Edition as your trusty camera companion. And he won't tell tall tales, just record them for all to see in glorious HD.

GoPro HD Hero2

It's not an over-exaggeration to say that the GoPro has changed the world of both amateur and professional video making. GoPros are used from cyclists and bikers in London to record the crazy near-accidents drivers cause around them. Skiers love them...

Well designed, superb picture quality, simple to use and reliable

Menus and buttons are fiddly, monitor is optional extra, battery life can be average at best

The HD Hero2 is unchanged in the important ways from the original camera. It's still got the best picture quality of any camera of its type, and it's one of the most usable sports and fitness cameras out there too.

GoPro HD Hero 2

Geek Treat of the Week Surfer dude and Reg Hardware reviewer Giles Hill waxed lyrical about the HD Hero [1] when he tried it out last year, and the developers at GoPro have just launched a new version of their rugged, outdoorsy and underwatery action-cam.
