With the likes of YouTube encouraging the point, shoot and share approach, the Flip Video Ultra camcorder looks ideal. Updated with video review.
Like the Vado, the Flip shoots at 640 x 480 and 30 frames/sec, which is great for YouTube compatibility but not so good if you want to burn a PAL DVD of your footage, as that will be running at 25 frames/sec and quality-reducing frame interpolation...

Ever since "happy slapping" caused a media furore in 2005, video on the move has been in the public eye. But filming with a phone is such a bore and camcorders are too big and expensive. What's the solution? Well Flip Video think they have the answer,...
Simple concept, portable, great fun
No lens cover, limited software shortcuts, audio buzz
This is a concept we like – it is so simple to shoot and share video with this pocketable device. The approach is easier than using a mobile phone and the results are better, so you are more likely to do it. Also, you can go from pocket to filming in...

The Flip lets you shoot and upload video faster than you can say ‘please don't put that on YouTube'. But is it better than the Creative Vado?
The Flip produces better quality YouTube vids than the Vado, and is a better all-round travel companion

Flip Video's two pocket-friendly video cameras, the Ultra and the Minio, were two of the surprise hits of 2008. The reason? Because despite their lack of features and their tiny image sensor, they were supremely easy to use, fun and shot decent-quality...
If you like the idea of the Flip camera, you'll love the Ultra HD. Despite its added girth, it's easy to carry around, child's play to use, and great fun. That it records high-quality video is a bonus

Single-button movie-making from a pocket-sized camcorder: what's not to like? The Flip Ultra is perfectly portable (it measures just 100x50x16mm and weighs 94g) and user-friendly, but has a style that's alien to traditional camcorders. But does it flip...
Standard-definition imagery is actually pretty good. Unbelievably user-friendly
Not HD, no autofocus, no exposure options, no video light... need we go on
The Flip Video Ultra may be easy to use and highly portable, but the myriad features missing is unforgivable.

The Flip Ultra camcorder features a 1.5-inch TFT display and, thanks to a 1/4 inch VGA CMOS sensor, captures video at a 640 x 480 resolution at 30fps. It also boasts a 2x digital zoom, powers up in four seconds and has a battery life of four hours. It...
A great choice for pocket-money Polanskis, the Flip Ultra lets you make YouTube movies with significantly less effort than tying your shoelaces. You can still trip up on its cut-down feature list, though, especially now that some digital cameras are...

It just got easier to upload to YouTube
You could be forgiven for thinking this is a mobile phone, at first glance. It has the same form factor, and is operated with just a few simple buttons. Apart from the 2x digital zoom, there are no settings to configure whatsoever – you just point and...

If you are interested in recording videos, but don't require or need the complexities of a high-end camera, then you could check out the Flip Ultra Video Recorder, which is as simple as it gets when it comes to recording videos with which to share...

Flip is not an expletive but rather a nice handheld camcorder that costs less than £100. The most important points are that the quality is superb and it is extremely easy to use and transfer or watch the output.
click to enlarge The Flip Video Ultra is 10.5x5.5x3cm and weights only 140grams. It comes in four colours, mine is a creamy white with orange sides. It is powered by two 'AA' batteries (supplied) and it's internal memory can record an hours action....
