Canon ZR800 review:

Canon ZR800

Inexpensive; easy-to-use joystick control; 35x optical zoom; above-average color reproduction; microphone jack.

Poor low-light performance; bottom-loading tape compartment; not enough stabilization at maximum zoom; no still image capture.

Canon's latest entry-level MiniDV camcorder is a great choice for anyone looking to create video on a shoestring budget.

Mucho Bang for the Buck

I purchased this camera to produce promotional videos to put on my company's website. I figured I didn't need a high end or high cost camera for the reduced quality of web video. After a few videos I was pleasantly surprised that not only did it shoot...

Good color and picture quality. There's a reason this camera was a Consumer Reports Top Pick. You get a lot of value from it

Due to its light weight it's easy to get shaky, however the image stabilization does and excellent job at reducing shakiness

great camera for the price!

after using the exact same camera in my media productions class (in which we use 3 of them) for the past year, it wasn't hard to know what i was looking for, and this camera is it! now i use this for recording performances of my band, and the external...

cheapest digital video camera on newegg, yet the quality is great! it looks better than a $500 dvd camera that i was using prior to purchasing this one ; has features like simple exposure settings (sports, night, portrait, ect), and some other simple...

camera, battery, a/v cable, charger, and thats it... no media, no firewire cables, no bag ; had same model in media productions class, and all the buttons on the screen went out. no idea why, so it was rma'd ; battery only lasts about an hour and 15...

Stay Away

There is so much to love about this camera, but even those positives cannot outweigh the one negative of motor noise.

I love everything about this camera except the sound. It fits in the palm or your hand. The screen "toggle" button makes navigation easy. The camera is intuitive. 35x optical zoom works great. The picture is very good

The only thing I don't like about the camera is the motor noise that is recorded when filming. In playback it is unbearable. It is for this reason I can only give the camera one star. The loud buzzing recorded on the tape makes this camera a joke at...

Stay away!

Newegg as usual shipped VERY fast. In fairness to Newegg, I had read the other reviews that talked about the motor noise. Just didn't realize it was this bad.

Low price. Very compact. Image quality not bad at all with enough light

THE MOTOR NOISE IS HORRIBLE. It overpowers all other sounds on any kind of a recording other than a loud event. It is REALLY bad. Thankfully, it has an external mic input. So, if you don"t want to hear the camera, and do what to hear whatever you're...

No good for new HDTV

good pop for the pennies. Good on regular tv's

Just be warned that on the newer hdtv's you will be fairly dismayed by the output of this camera. I had it for a month and had to return it

Great for home movies

Overall a pretty good camera. I would definitely recommend it to anybody who was looking for a mini-dv camcorder.

Takes great video outside. Lots of options (16:9 and 4:3). Some transitions built in. Video stabilization. For the price a good camcorder

Indoor video is a bit noisy. Firewire only no usb2.0. Also no Firewire cable included but I think that is common. The indoor video quality is the only reason I didn't give it a 5
