Canon HG10 HDD Camcorder

Canon's first camcorder with a hard disk drive makes its debut. Is James Morris impressed?

Although the HG10 doesn't bowl us over quite as much as the HV20, it's still an impressive piece of kit. Sony's lower end HDR-SR5E undercuts it on price considerably, but misses out key features such as a standard-sized accessory shoe. The more fully...

Canon HG10 review

“Control, control, you must have control!” So says Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back.We agree, but is this the cam to give you that all-important control?

Good range of features ; Excellent usability ; Impressive image quality ; Great microphone

Uses awkward mini HDMI

A well-specified performer with an innovative approach to navigation and manual operation that is capable of impressive pictures and sound.

Canon HG10 review

Canon's robust HG10 camcorder offers support for microSD and includes a 40GB hard drive that allows for up to 15 hours of full HD 1,080i video.

Despite minor gripes, the HG10 offers solid performance at a reasonable price. And that's enough for us to recommend the Canon HG10.

Canon HG10 review

The HG10 is the world's smallest AVCHD camcorder with a built-in hard drive. Time to see what this 40GB beauty can do

An all-round performer that shoots great footage, but is beaten by Sony's SR7E for style and Canon's own HV20 for features

Canon HG10

Whether you're in the market for a new camcorder for that trip of a lifetime or are a newcomer thinking of getting into video blogging, there's plenty of choice when it comes to how (and in which format) you record your home movies.

Generous 40GB hard disk storage is more than enough, viewfinder is handy when LCD visibility suffers in sunlight, robust build and reliable performer

Too large to be pocketed, awkward positioning of some controls, stills committed to removable card only (which costs extra), auto focus sometimes hunts

More positively, you can further enhance the look of your footage by selecting the built-in cinema mode, which, combined with its 25fps (frames per second) progressive frame rate, lends your digital images a film-like feel. Footage displays...

Canon HG10 HDD Camcorder

This camcorder is one of the latest versions that record to an internal hard drive, thus increasing the capacity vastly over other storage methods. It can of course also record still images onto an SD card.

The total weight of the Canon HG10 is 570grams. The dimensions are 12.5x7.5x7cm. The middle figure the width can increase by another 8.5cm should you choose to use the TFT screen while capturing images and have it at 90degrees to the unit.

Canon HG10 review

This model was reviewed as part of our group test of HD camcorders . At first glance, the HG10 might look rather out-of-place in this line-up. Costing a fraction of any other model in our group test, the HG10 looks like a purely consumer-oriented...

Low cost. Professional features. Small. Light. Impressive video quality for price

Noticeable compression artefacts. Poor support from Adobe’s applications

Canon HG10 Review

Canon's High Definition camcorder, the HG10 is one of the World's smallest HD camcorders but it still provides great features in a compact package. Doug Harman puts this new hard disc camcorder through its paces.

Compact size, Video quality, Price, Fast AF system, Easy to use

Fiddly four-way jog button on LCD, Some handling foibles, Audio issues, Small EVF, Lacks manual focus control

The HG10 provides great video quality and a set of excellent features. But it has a few issues that let the side down and certainly, you should get your hand on one of these to try before you buy after all, stubby fingers might not be an issue for you!
