Does Canon's HF11 HD camcorder better its excellent HF10? James finds out.

Canon HF11

On the face of it, Canon's new AVCHD flagship camcorder (known as the Vixia HF11 outside Europe) isn't that different to the HF10 it effectively replaces, and requires a scan of the specification sheet to see where the major new features lie. Perhaps...

The Canon HF11 is a lovely camcorder that's very easy to use. It would be nice to have more accessible manual control and perhaps even a manual focus ring, but it produces such good high-definition pictures and sounds that we shouldn't really complain

Canon HF11

A case of deja vu.

Exceptionally sharp image quality, lots of manual features, improved 24Mbps bit rate

Too similar to previous model, joystick ill-suited to manual control

If you already own the HF10, there is next to no reason to make the switch to the HF11. Everyone else, on the other hand, would do well to seek this camcorder out.

Canon gets official with VIXIA HD camcorders, HF11 gets reviewed

Thanks to an early jump in Japan, we already knew that Canon's VIXIA line was getting a refresh, but now we can rest easy knowing they'll be coming to America....

Canon Vixia HF11 review: Canon Vixia HF11

Canon Vixia HF11

Excellent video quality; fast focus; compact, attractive, and comfortable design.

Wind filter not as dependable as previous Canon models; manual focus pretty useless.

Like its sibling the HF10, Canon's flash-based Vixia HF11 delivers excellent HD video quality and performance in a tiny package. However, the HF11 delivers a bit more value for its lower price.

Canon Vixia HF11

This model is especially versatile because it allows dual memory card recording, plus playback via HDMI and USB. The audio quality is just as impressive as video recording, although Canon took a step backward on the wind filter. Although this camcorder...

Excellent quality- allows HD recording at highest AVCHD bitratesPowerful- 12x zoom combined with Instant Auto Focus brings action closerValue- quality, features, and performance are hard to beat for the priceSmart- records to dual flash memory cards...

Flaws- awkward eyepiece, slow file transfer time, and poor battery life

Canon HF11

It might not fit every hand, but the results it provides are excellent whether you're a manual fiddler or just want quick and easy automatic filming capabilities.

32GB on-board ; Variety of available bit rates ; Able to fiddle manually, or just shoot automatically ; Great picture quality

Square camera body can be fiddly to pick up ; Battery life is a touch short

Conclusion If its shape suits your taste in camcorders, then Canon's HF11 is the first flash memory-based high-def camcorder we've tested with the quality and the capacity to mix it with the hard-disk boys.

Canon Vixia HF11 Camcorder Review

The Canon Vixia HF11 is, in many ways, a minor update to an already highly regarded camcorder. The previous generation HF10 produced some of the best looking video of the year, and definitely the sharpest. The new HF11 promises to outdo even that by...

Canon VIXIA HF11 [Review]

Vacations are approaching - time to review a HD camcorder

Compact, stylish, excellent build, ergonomic, 32 GB SSD + SD HC, image quality, battery life, remote control, optical image stabilization

Slightly heavy, no carry pouch, power button difficult to use, camera button not protruding enough, thumbwheel placed at an awkward position
