Lean and fast, this modestly-priced deck boasts SACD compatibility
Fast disc loading ; Lots of web content ; SACD ; Remarkable value
Poor manual ; Fiddly front fascia controls

Blu-ray Product of the Year, Awards 2010. This superb 3D performer serves up images full of depth, as well as nimble, full-bodied sound
Great price ; market-leading sound and pictures, including 3D ; generally very impressive spec
But no multi-channel analogue output or secondary HDMI connection
Blu-ray Product of the Year, Awards 2010. Put simply, this player delivers the best 3D images we've seen, with denser and more consistent colours

It incorporates a video search engine and plays internet video from a multitude of sites. The Sony BDP-S570 is 3D-ready (via upgrade). And it lets you send everything to your HDTV in the source's original format. But when we assessed the BDP-S570's...
We found lots to like in the Sony BDP-S570. But its mixed-bag image quality and a few poorly designed features prevent it from being a winner.

A 3D-capable Sony Blu-ray player with average image quality
Well designed, extremely fast operation, 3D-ready (when Sony releases a firmware update)
Disappointing image quality (especially black and white), on-screen menus and manual not always helpful
The Sony BDP-S570 looks great on paper, but in our tests its on-screen results were mixed.

With integrated Wi-Fi, plenty of interactive Web features, and future 3D support, Sony's BDP-S570 Blu-Ray player checks all the right boxes. And it's a disc-loading speed demon with excellent HD picture quality.
Excellent HD picture quality. Solid SD quality. Speedy load times. Integrated Wi-Fi. Netflix, Amazon, Slacker and YouTube streaming. Will support 3D playback via a firmware upgrade later this year. 1GB of on-board memory.
Limited front player controls. Remote control is not illuminated.

Editors' note : We updated this review to reflect the BDP-S570's features and streaming-video performance using the latest firmware available August 2, 2010.
Very good Blu-ray image quality; 3D Blu-ray compatible; Netflix, Amazon VOD, Pandora, YouTube, and Slacker media streaming; built-in Wi-Fi; fastest operational speed we've tested; SACD playback; 1GB onboard storage.
Inconsistent streaming-video performance using Wi-Fi; some very minor image quality nitpicks.
The Sony BDP-S570 has all the features of other midrange Blu-ray players, plus future 3D support and best-in-class operational speed, but its streaming-video performance over Wi-Fi is spotty.

After seeing the debut of the new Sony Blu-ray player lineup at CES this year, I was excited to get a chance to try one out. Taking its place at the top of the non-ES single-disc Blu-ray player lineup, the BDP-S570, boasts WiFi, Netflix, Pandora, and...
So we return to the original question of whether this player deservedly commands a marginal premium for its feature set. I say the answer is a resounding YES. For the price, you get a quick, high-quality, Blu-ray player that has excellent deinterlacing...

While there are more Blu-Ray players slated for release soon, the Sony BDP-S570 is an advanced but affordable model that consumers looking to upgrade should definitely consider. Despite a few minor firmware flaws, the performance of this device is...
