Budget deck that lacks features but delivers terrific HD pictures
Excellent Blu-ray pictures ; Reasonable price ; Attractive looks
No DTS HD MA ; No multichannel analogue outs ; Limited format support
The BD-P1500 is a terrific way to get Blu-ray on a budget, but be prepared to make a few sacrifices

Samsung have been making noises in the Blu-ray market for some time now. But does their latest player offer enough to convince you to switch from your humble DVD? We get watching to find out. There is nothing in the design to offend and we found that...
Price, Ethernet connection, upgradeability to Profile 2, simple to use
Loading times, remote feels a bit cheap, no HDMI cable supplied
There is nothing in the design to offend and we found that the Blu-ray playback was excellent. The upscaling performance was pretty good and the major audio bases covered, at this price, the Samsung BD-P1500 is a great way to get access to...

Samsung's budget Blu-ray spinner is available for under two tons. But is its performance classy or compromised?
Decent, affordable Blu-ray spinner, but not up to class-leading standards

This Blu-ray player was the one I used with the recently reviewed Samsung Series 6 Full HD LE32A656 however any full HD TV should allow you to see the full glory of Blu-ray. To hear the full cinema sound quality you will need a 5.1 or 7.1 sound system.
The Samsung BD-P1500 is 43x31x6.5cm with leads inserted in the rear. It has matt black top and sides with grey back and base, the front is shiny black. The following connections are on the back a hard wired (1.35metre) power lead, HDMI out socket, USB...

The BD-P1500 is a remarkably slim and sleek unit, with a minimal fascia and a decent array of sockets on the rear. Understandably for a cut-price player it lacks certain frills like analogue outputs, but there is an Ethernet port, an HDMI output and a...
Sleek design, BD Live support, decent HD images
No DivX, MP3, WMA or JPEG support, slow disc loading, no DTS HD decoding, no multi-channel analogue outputs

Excellent DVD upscaling and Blu-ray playback quality, BD-Live connectivity
Takes a while to load a Blu-ray disc
If you're after good quality Blu-ray visuals and excellent DVD upscaling, the Samsung BD-P1500 is a good choice.

Samsung BD-P1500
Recent discounts make it a bargain; Profile 2.0 compatible with a firmware upgrade; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD; very good image quality on most Blu-ray discs; Ethernet port for firmware updates.
DVD playback will disappoint videophiles; no analog multichannel outputs; onboard DTS-HD Master Audio decoding.
The Samsung BD-P1500 offers generous Blu-ray functionality at a budget price, thanks to several firmware updates and aggressive retailer discounts.

Samsung strikes a nice balance between performance and affordability with the BD-P1500.
Quick start-up. Good DVD video upconversion. Supports Bonus View Blu-ray features.
No upconverted 1080p24 output with DVD movies. Ineffective 1080i video upconversion.
