The DP-UB820 4K Blu-ray player represents the middle-ground in Panasonic's 2019 Blu-ray range, sitting between the range-topping DP-UB9000 and budget DP-UB420, offering Dolby Vision Blu-ray support without the premium price tag.
Multi-HDR format support Superb image performance for the price Integrated streaming apps
Unexciting CD playback Average build quality
When it comes to value for money, the Panasonic DP-UB820 4K player is a difficult proposition to beat. If you already own, or have plans to invest in, a Dolby Vision or HDR10+ compatible TV, the UB820 warrants the price premium over the cheaper DP-UB420.

The workhorse of the 4K Blu-ray player world
Outstanding pictures and audio ; Built to last ; Plenty of connectivity
Software can be inconsistent ; Plain menus ; Front panel can cause issues
The Panasonic DP-UB820 offers fantastic picture and audio performance with plenty of features and connectivity for an excellent price. It's built to last and even though it is a few years old, it's still one of the standard bearers for what a 4K...

What Hi-Fi? Awards 2022 winner. Panasonic's 4K player delivers on many levels
Vibrant, immersive HDR picture ; Punchy, believable colour balance ; Powerful and weighty sound
Could be dynamically subtler ; No SACD or DVD-A support
This 4K Blu-ray player promises plenty on paper and backs that up with a hugely entertaining picture and sound performance

The Panasonic DP-UB820 is packed with high-end features for an affordable price – and movies look fantastic, crucially
Superb image quality ; Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support ; Comprehensive connectivity
Limited streaming app portal ; No Playback Info Screen
The DP-UB820 is a talented 4K Blu-ray player that avoids a punishing price, thanks mainly to its mainstream build quality. If you can live with the slightly plasticky finish, its AV performance is glorious for the price, and includes seamless support...

The Panasonic UB820 includes most of the features found on the flagship UB9000, but at a considerably lower price. Is this 4K disc player the bargain...
Superb disc playback ; Dolby Vision/HDR10+ support ; HDR optimisation ; Decent build quality ; Great price
No SACD or DVD-Audio playback ; Netflix app always outputs in HDR/DV ; Issues with Atmos from Netflix and Amazon
The is an excellent 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player that is nicely designed and well put-together. It has a fairly minimalist appearance, with a drop-down flap across the front, a simple display, a USB port and two buttons. However, there's a good selection...

Performance Features Ergonomics Value
Today’s Ultra HD Blu-ray player market is drastically smaller than the one for the spinning-disc machines of old. In my early days reviewing DVD players, I could literally enter an electronics store, walk out with over a dozen players, and that would...
Consumer review (richersounds.com)
I bought this model specifically because it offers a large range of options to connect to other devices. This enables me to retain a lot of kit that would otherwise become obsolete and end up in landfill.
Consumer review (richersounds.com)
Firstly I should point out that this player is currently used in a Home Cinema with an HD projector, so I cannot fully comment on the 4K picture quality. It does however play my library of HD Bluray disks, plus a few 4K discs (player converts to HD)...
