JVC XV-BP1 review

This is JVC's first toe into Blu-ray waters, but other players leave it firmly stuck on the starting blocks

All necessary video processing and audio decoding on-board ; decent detail and colours ; solid with DVD

Lacklustre sound ; struggles with motion

The latest generation of players from big-hitters of the AV world have stepped it up a notch – this JVC seems to have been left behind before it’s even started

LOL @ “poor-man’s Oppo” ... I thought Oppo was the poor-man's BD player to begin with.

JVC XV-BP1 Blu-ray Player Review

JVC's XV-BP1 has a terribly bright light at the front of its unit, reminding one a bit of the flood lamps at the front of the spaceship in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The brightness can potentially be off-putting, especially with close...

JVC XV-BP 1

Quiet, economical, and fast., Superb picture for movies and HD documentaries., Bitstream HD-audio output., Easy multimedia playback from a disc or via USB.

Weaknesses in DVD de-interlacing., Incomplete DTS-HD decoder., No picture controls., Too few multimedia extras.

JVC’s first Blu-ray player leaves no room for criticism in the core disciplines, and draws a high score as a result: It’s fast and quiet and can play back multimedia content. Simple operation adds to the list of positives, as does the excellent overall...

JVC XV-BP1 Blu-ray Player Reviewed

JVC decided to wait and see who won the Blu-ray v. HD-DVD format war before entering the high-definition disc market. Now that the victor is clear, the company has introduced its first Blu-ray player. The XV-BP1 is a Profile 2.0 player with BD-Live and...

The JVC XV-BP1 supports 1080p/24 playback of Blu-ray discs

The XV-BP1 lacks multichannel analog audio outputs, so it's not the best choice for someone who owns an older, non-HDMI A/V receiver ; This player does not offer any type of VOD streaming function, nor does it feature a wireless option for connection...

The XV-BP1's feature set is on par with other players in the sub-$300 range. It lacks perks like VOD streaming and wireless network connectivity, but it sports the must-have features we look for in a new Blu-ray player.

JVC XVBP1

A complete home system consists of many components that work together to deliver the best possible movie experience and since the visuals and sound depend on the TV and speakers respectively, it is important to get the best TV and speaker configuration...

The features of the JVC XVBP1 Blu-ray Player are just enough for people to get a decent experience out of Blu-ray technology in general. It doesn’t offer any special online networking features, but the support for BD Live is welcome and the quality for...

Great player

Also plays these formats: Xvid, XvidHD, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, MKV, MKVHD from both DVD+R/RW but also from USB flash drives (Fat32).

This player has worked flawless for me so far and with BD from netflix too. It is faster at booting up and loading disks than most other players. The video and audio quality for both HD and SD content is comparable to that of the highly acclaimed Oppo...

JVC Good Value Blu-Ray

Had to buy from a local bricks and mortar store since Newegg did not carry it at the time...it was cheap there. Owned for over one month, long term reliability unknown. Do a search for this unit on the AVS Forum for more detailed reviews and info.

Inexpensive, plays every disk, USB port, very fast loading

Can't dim the bright blue lights on the front

Blu-Ray maybe a Sony to me mostly, but this JVC is excellent.

Did you ever get one of those deals where you couldn't afford NOT to buy something? Yes I know that sounds silly, but the JVC XV-BP1 Blu-Ray, is such a player. JVC USA, indicates that this player was and is $229.95. That is the nominal sweet spot ...

Great Video performance, easy firmware update, easy use, good value

JVC XV-BP1 blu-ray player is a bargain even at twice the price

After nearly 10 years of reliable use from my JVC brand DVD player, technology upgrade demanded that my family get with the times and get a blu-ray player. Since the JVC DVD player had been so reliable all these years, I wanted to ...
