A lot of loud sound comes out from compressor after 5 mins of cooling. Cooling is good however that sound is unbearable. Sometimes stops cooling too after that grrrrr sound. Would not suggest to buy this one. Spend few extra $ $ $ and buy a better one...

In a double story house that heats up like a sauna it's helpful although mine seems to leak water after it's been running for a few days and makes the carpet smell...not to sure why this happens or if it is meant to

Mine started triggering the breaker switch for the house 3 months into use. Good Guys replaced it under warranty. The second unit broke ... compressor worked, fan didnt. GG refused to deal, sent me to hotpoint who promised that someone would come....

For its size and price, the Hotpoint offers good cooling. Like all portables, it is fairly noisy when cranked up, but not more than you would expect. If it is not set up to drain continuously, the water reservoir will fill after a few hours of use...
The unit is unobstrusively shaped, and good power for it's size. Seems to cool well. The window adaptor works well for most sizes of sash windows.
Although portable, the wheels WILL leave ruts in your floorboards, even hardwood. Also, our required emptying after a few hours of use when not set up to drain continuously.
