Dawnguard review: Our verdict on Skyrim's first DLC

It's taken Bethesda 8 months to release the first piece of DLC for Skyrim. It fills the already expansive world map with new locations, quests, weapons, armour, and characters - and even throws in a few new gameplay features.

Over 20 hours of gameplay ; Expanded vampire powers ; New weapons to craft

Reused dungeon assets ; Vampire Lord controls need work ; Dawnguard quest not as fun

A worthy chunk of DLC that fills Skyrim's already packed world map with new gear, enemies, and quests.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Through the frozen tundra of Skyrim, a lone warrior steps forth. He's tired, with only the metallic sounds of his armour and heavy footsteps for company. It's then that he hears the taunting; a marauder chief charges with a battle-axe in hand followed...

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Games Xtreme tears Wolf away from Skyrim long enough for him to write the review of what could well be Game of the Year 2011.

Skyrim has some faults, but at a 300+ hour meticulously crafted fun and immersive action adventure. It is a game that gives you what you want, a truly epic and custom made rpg experience. You cannot miss this one!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim is easily one of the strongest and best examples of the Western RPG, and it further establishes Bethesda's reputation as one of the most talented and creative forces in the gaming industry.

The rest of the combat system allows players to dual-wield weapons and magical attacks - provided of course, their weapon of choice doesn't require two hands to swing. Every successful attack earns XP which can be used to level up, and your character...

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review

With a new engine, and a whole new region of Tamriel to explore, is 'Skyrim' the best Elder Scrolls game yet?

I’m calling it now. I’ll be amazed if "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" is anything other than my 'Game Of The Year'. It has so much amazing content, fantastic combat, and a brilliant storyline, all set in a rich world that will play out slightly...

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls series has always had a certain charm to it in terms of its fantastically realized world and somewhat buggy performance. Games

Skyrim is the game that I would highly recommend to damn near anyone. It’s not too hard to figure out and it’s got such an enormous amount of stuff to do that anyone would be able to see what is so special about the game. It has bugs, there...

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review

Endless playability is the hallmark of The Elder Scrolls series and, while I haven't matched the hundreds of hours I put into Morrowind, or even the nearly 100 I put into Oblivion, I've spent enough...

Stunning environments ; Near complete freedom ; Great new magic/combat system ; Phenomenal score

Minor occasional glitches

First things first: a disclaimer. I haven’t finished Skyrim. I haven’t completed the main quest or run through all the missions for a guild. I haven’t explored every corner of the map and leveled my character to godly heights. In fact, I feel like I’ve...
