Mass Effect 2 review

Bioware's Mass Effect 2 gives us a glimpse of how both RPGs and shooters will begin to merge in the years ahead.

In Mass Effect 2 BioWare has done a spectacular job moving the role playing genre forward, and blending disparate gameplay styles into genuinely exciting sci-fi epic. It shows an enormous amount of growth from the original game both technically and...

Mass Effect 2: Arrival

REVIEW: Bridging the gap to Mass Effect 3

Nice premise with decent set-pieces ; Should get you fired up for Mass Effect 3

Poorly masks its linear nature ; It's all over in less than two hours ; This is a solo mission, Shepherd

A disappointing interim chapter

Games review - Mass Effect 2 is massive

The second act in gaming's most ambitious space opera is a huge improvement on the original, in terms of both action and state-of-the-art storytelling.

Consistently interesting characters and decision-making. Improved combat, inventory and stats

The plot itself is unremarkable and the action still a little basic. Ditching the Mako seems a bit extreme

A milestone game for BioWare, where character-driven drama proves just as engrossing as the combat.

Games review – Mass Effect 2: Lair Of The Shadow Broker is worth exploring

After months of disappointing downloadable content has BioWare finally created a new adventure that's worthy of the Mass Effect 2 legacy?

Great pacing, sparkling dialogue and the usual top notch acting (with a female Shepard anyway). Some unusual action set pieces and superb graphics

The adventure is pretty short and not terribly good value for money. Still not enough interaction with Liara and the romantic scenes are needlessly coy

Easily the best downloadable extra so far and the only one to realise that Mass Effect 2's true strength is in character and melodrama, not action.

Mass Effect 2: Overlord

Fun action, great audio, and multiple memorable moments make Mass Effect 2's latest add-on a winner.

Mass Effect 2: Overlord - xbox360

Good lord.

Overlord, the latest and largest of the Mass Effect DLC packs, is a mixed bag in the best possible way. It's a medium-sized adventure that never lets one gameplay element dominate for too long, leavening the expected duck-and-cover combat with...

Mass Effect 2 Xbox 360 Review

The science fiction flavoured universe of Mass Effect, with its contrasting races and deep back-story, is one of the richest universes that the medium of gaming has to offer. Being the staunch fan that I am, even once I was done with the game, I wasn't...

The simplified exploration and the presence of flawed squad AI are disappointing, though the union of RPG and action elements has been handled superbly. Once again though, it’s the universe, narrative and characters that prove to be Mass Effect 2's...

Mass Effect 2: Kasumi - Stolen Memory

The combat is fun and the references are clever, but this incredibly short downloadable add-on lacks character.

Kasumi's combat skills make for fun action ; Some funny references ; Story comes to a lovely end

Kasumi isn't a very interesting character ; No memorable moments ; Really, really short

Mass Effect 2 DLC Roundup Review | Xbox 360

Firewalker Pack and Kasumi - Stolen Memory.

Mass Effect 2 has fared better than Dragon Age, that much is clear. There's not really been any DLC that can compare to Return to Ostagar for sheer pointlessness, and even the less compelling offerings have either been free (as in the case of the...

Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360, PC) review

You know a videogame's got to be pretty good when the mere thought of reviewing it actually scares you a little bit. Generally speaking, enthusing about a game you love is the easiest job in the world. But some games are?so good, that you actually fear...

I just hope that BioWare remake the first game with the combat from the second, so I can force people to play it without having to say "oh, er, but the first one has aged really badly in comparison, sorry".
