Gears of War: Judgment review

The Gears of War games revolutionised the third-person shooter with its cover mechanics, thrilling gunplay and multiplayer innovations. But Gears of War 3 marked the end of an era, providing a definitive conclusion to the much-loved series. Now Gears...

A new multiplayer focus and some arcade-style gameplay tweaks keeps the Gears formula fresh, but the story is basic

Gears Of War: Judgement

Less than ten minutes into Gears of War: Judgement, things don't look great for this prequel to Epic Games' much-lauded sci-fi shooter franchise. Having mercilessly slaughtered every alien monstrosity populating the opening level… precisely nothing...

Gears of War: Judgment

With three instalments under its belt, Gears of War can without question be considered as something of a veteran, but here in the twilight years of a generation such an old hand has to try that much harder to impress a gaming audience that has seen it...

In refusing to slap a number 4 in the title, Epic Games itself is admitting that Judgment categorically isn’t the next great leap for the series, and we’re assuming that will come with the next generation. But as a reminder of why Gears of War became...

Gears of War: Judgment Xbox 360 Review

There is a lot riding on Gears of War: Judgment. It not only has to continue the legacy of a highly successful trilogy but provide something new and engaging enough to emerge from the shadow of its titanic predecessors. By shaking up the format and...

Solid, satisfying gameplay ; Interesting narrative structure ; Smart Spawn System keeps the action exciting

Short campaign ; Removal of classic Gears of War multiplayer modes ; Lack of variety in multiplayer ; Limited maps

Gears of War: Judgment Review

A new challenge-based campaign structure and some fresh multiplayer action make Gears of War: Judgment a worthwhile scion of the celebrated franchise.

Difficulty modifiers spice up combat ; Character classes engender teamwork in Survival and Overrun ; Free for All and Domination are great multiplayer additions

Narrative flow is regularly disrupted ; Aftermath campaign is lackluster

Gears Of War: Judgment Review (Xbox 360)

Aftermath is a very good bonus section of campaign., The Mission Declassifications add a new level of variety., It looks excellent., New multiplayer modes are fun.

Story feels pretty weak with not much progression., It is missing those major stand out moments., The Star Rating system makes the Judgment campaign almost feel like a series of challenge rooms instead of a main mode.

Gears Of War: Judgment Review

With the current consoles continuing to live on against the odds, developers are trying to keep their franchises alive without starting too much new. Ho [...]

With lacklustre characters and a pretty much pointless story, I’m amazed that I had as much fun with "Gears Of War: Judgment" as I did. It’s testament to PCF’s tweaks that they just about inject enough new life into the gameplay, yet avoid twisting it...
