ZombiU

A different kind of zombie for a different kind of console

Tense, brooding atmosphere ; Brilliant use of the Wii U Pad ; A serious challenge

Unforgiving difficulty level ; Backtracking and repetition ; Average graphics

ZombiU is all about self-preservation through preparation, carefully gathering flares, grenades, molotovs and the painfully inadequate supplies of ammo, and watching for any signs of zombie action. Loud noises tend to attract your brain-hungry chums,...

ZombiU ::: Review

The cricket bat may remind you of Shaun of the Dead, but that's where the laughs stop.

ZombiU Wii U Review

Zombies are very much in vogue at the moment, so what better game to launch a console with than a zombie game? It's precisely this that Ubisoft has done with ZombiU for Nintendo's new Wii U console, though it's a zombie game that does things a bit...

At a point when a series like Resident Evil has largely long turned its back on its survival horror roots, ZombiU is a game that recalls such games, but also brings its own interesting and inventive ideas to the genre and, at the same time, has the...

ZombiU Wii U Review

This is a game centred on survival, about the burning desire to do some good in the world, regardless of the cost. You're always moving forward in ZombiU, with death being just a minor inconvenience in the path of progress. Each survivor that falls at...

Great atmosphere ; Unusual focus on survival ; Great concept

Mediocre graphics ; Repetitive gameplay ; Poor WiiU integration

ZombiU review – prepare to die

One of the Wii U's most important launch titles is an 18-rated zombie horror, but is it really the sort of game that will work on Nintendo's new console?

Excellently tense atmosphere that is strengthened by both the use of permanent deaths and the GamePad as electronic Swiss army knife. Subtle but clever online options

The gunplay and melee combat are stodgy and unsatisfying. Puzzles are largely uninteresting and very repetitive. Generally weak graphics

The best survival horror of the year and a bold use of the Wii U’s features, creating a mature-rated adventure that is as ruthlessly difficult as it is engrossing.

ZombiU review: Survival horror makes a bloody comeback

Survival horror. Remember that? Creeping through the darkness with only a sliver of health and two bullets in your pistol. Terrified of what's waiting around the next corner. Suspense. Claustrophobia. It's something you don't see much of these days,...

Classic survival horror gameplay ; Beautiful lighting and world design ; Freedom to explore between missions

Clumsy movement in tight spaces ; Some GamePad features feel forced ; A few punishing difficulty spikes

ZombiU Review

With an uninteresting world and dull combat, the survival horror game ZombiU is a weak link in the Wii U's launch lineup.

Fun multiplayer modes capitalize on game's strengths

Heavy emphasis on dull melee combat ; Uninteresting puzzles and mission structure ; Wii U gamepad adds little and hurts immersion

The Wii U gamepad functionality doesn't contribute much to the game. The pad’s functions include displaying the map and your inventory, and being the place where you tap to interact with things such as wooden barricades or manhole covers. When tapping...

ZombiU Review

A welcome return for true survival horror, where death is around every corner of this brutal world you timidly creep around.

Thick, rich atmosphere ; Brilliant use of light and sound ; Intense and properly scary

Latter stages disappoint

Played through the campaign for a total of 12 hours and had a few games of multiplayer afterwards. Found the crossbow. Dropped the GamePad twice. Shrieked like an infant once.

ZombiU

Aside from its kind of lousy name, ZombiU is a cleverly crafted and legitimately scary game that Wii U owners should absolutely consider. A

ZombiU is definitely not a game for everyone, mostly due to its unforgiving design and flat fiction. But few horror games really make you feel like you’re in a desperate struggle for survival, and few action games command all of your attention...

ZombiU Review

A unique Wii U launch game and quite frankly, terrifying.

ZombiU is a fantastic, unique Wii U launch game and quite frankly, terrifying. It’s the best use of the GamePad as a second screen and is the prefect game to compliment Nintendo’s family-friendly approach. It has its issues, especially when the novelty...
