Sony PlayStation VR review: Virtual reality for the masses

We can't count the amount of times someone has said 2016 would be the "year of VR", ourselves included if we're being honest, but we're 10 months in now and it's been anything but. Setting up the PS VR has proven a troublesome project, especially with...

Incredible gaming experiences, sturdy and robust headset, works with existing technology, cheaper than equivalent rivals

Set-up can be long and frustrating, tracking issues can occur, screen lower resolution than rivals, games can be pricey

Setting up the PS VR has proven a troublesome project, especially with Camera placement and calibration, and that is worrying considering it will invariably attract plenty of less tech savvy customers. But the pay-off at the end is a superb virtual...

DriveClub on PlayStation VR preview: The future of driving games, full stop

It's unbelievable to think that whenever we've experience virtual reality gaming in the past that it's never really occurred to us that driving games would be superbly suited to the medium. But our brief one lap race on a tech demo version of DriveClub...

Hands-on: Sony PlayStation VR review: We dive into the deep with Sony's Project Morpheus - Pocket-lint

When you say virtual reality to people, they usually say one of two things: if they are old enough, they talk of fond memories of watching The Lawnmower

PlayStation VR review

Two years after initially announcing PlayStation VR, Sony launched PlayStation VR in the UK. I've spent some time with the PS4-powered PlayStation VR headset, and here's what I think.

The world that PlayStation VR is going to open for gamers around the world is exciting, and is much more affordable than the high-end VR headsets without trading in on the experience. I’m confident that gamers will enjoy what Sony is offering with the...

PlayStation VR

Sony has entered the world of virtual reality with PlayStation VR. Sony's headset represents the cheapest of the current “big three” on the market, and is the only one currently available to console gamers.

Sony PlayStation VR review

It looks like 2016 is living up to its billing as the "year of virtual reality," with products at the high end ( HTC Vive and Oculus Rift ) and in the mobile arena ( Samsung Gear VR , Google Cardboard , Google Daydream ) offering VR options across the...

The PlayStation VR is the most accessible, affordable and user-friendly full VR option on the market. Sony has promised support from a long list of developers down the track but the immediate launch games are pretty solid as well.

Its single-camera tracking system occasionally feels lacking and you may have trouble when you turn around. The PSVR's graphical fidelity is occasionally noticeably lower than what's possible with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

While the motion tracking trails its PC VR counterparts, Sony's PlayStation VR otherwise crams a solid and satisfying virtual reality experience into an existing PS4 game console.

Sony PlayStation VR review

Proper VR for the masses that just misses out on greatness

Very comfortable ; Much more affordable than its rivals ; Incredibly smooth, fluid and immersive VR ; Some of the early content is amazing

Some inconsistencies to head and controller tracking ; Relatively small play area ; A lot of the initial games are very short ‘experiences’ ; Some odd design decisions

The PS VR is capable of delivering incredible experiences, but some teething issues mean we can’t yet recommend it without reservations

Project Morpheus

Preview: Two more Project Morpheus demos for you to get excited about

Morpheus still impresses and with the roster of games growing every month, we could see the PS4 headset giving the Steam VR-compatible HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift a good run for their money. VR can work on a console after all.
