Neato XV Essential review

We were quite taken with the $449 Neato XV Signature Pro that we reviewed last year. Then, Neato announced a new robot vacuum at CES earlier this month and our enthusiasm was renewed. Not only is the $379 XV Essential another Neato for the CNET...

The $379 Neato XV Essential is very similar to the high-performing $449 Neato XV Signature Pro. It did even better than the Pro on two tests.

It didn't do quite as well collecting pet hair as the Signature Pro. Emptying the dust bin is a nightmare due to the cheap filter.

This robot vacuum is a whopping $320 less than the iRobot Roomba 880 and performed similarly well. However, its cheap filter makes it hard to use -- if you want a Neato, stick with the $399 XV Signature or the $449 XV Signature Pro.

Consumer review (cnet.com)

perfect alternative to vacuum your home/apartment.

the top piece that reads "neato" on it doesnt get "detected" when vacuuming, in other words if you have a couch or something that it isn't tall enough it might get stuck trying to get in there, but again that are ways around this with the virtual cable...

It cleans everything and cleans really well. Again I have the Neato XV-21 and if i setup this unit to clean the same room twice believe me it will pull some more on the 2nd run. To me that tells me it is cleaning.

Battery could last more than 50+ minutes, which i think its ok. I read somewhere that there are alternative batteries for this unit that works better. height - i wish the unit was smaller.
