Sony KDL-40W605B

Sony rewrites what to expect from an affordable LCD TV

Stunning picture quality for its money ; Good smart TV system ; Good range of connections

Flimsy build quality ; Pretty average audio ; No 4OD or ITV Player support

We guess some people might feel a bit peeved at the lack of standard colour management facilities on the 40W605B. But our view is that the colour handling is so good anyway that most of the relatively mainstream audience this TV is targeted at will...

Sharp, detailed ; Likeably rich colours ; Good upscaler ; Prolific smart offering ; Light, but sturdy build

Sound could be better

Best 40-46in TV, Awards 2014. This five-star Sony is a great set that’s easy on the eye and wallet

Sony Bravia KDL-40W605 review: A modestly priced TV from a big manufacturer that delivers excellent picture quality

Its keen price and sumptuous picture quality make Sony's KDL-40W605 a good buy for those after a high-quality, mid-range TV.

This set's ability to produce pictures with deep black levels and pleasingly accurate colours help it stand out from the mid-range crowd. Add in its good lineup of ports and easy to use menu system and you've got an impressive TV.

The smart TV system isn't as good as Samsung's smart offering and it is sometimes unresponsive to the remote for several seconds after coming out of standby. The lack of 3D support may be an issue for some too.

If you're after excellent picture quality at a reasonable price, the KDL-42W705 really delivers. It lacks extras such as 3D support and advanced motion processing, but its price reflects this and overall picture quality is still very strong.

Sony W630B TV

The 1080p Sony KDL60W630B/2 TV is a remake of a popular 2014 model with the same name. It is a budget TV with average picture quality, lacking many of the features found in higher end TVs. Despite the low price, it has excellent motion performance and...

Excellent motion handling ; Low input lag

Colors are inaccurate at an angle ; Average peak brightness

Sony KDL-40W600B Review

The Sony KDL-40W600B is one of the most unique cheap TVs we reviewed. Its bright picture provides vivid visuals, although they are less accurate and natural than other TVs we tested. It features more HDMI ports than any other TV we tested, which is...

This TV has four HDMI inputs – more than any other TV we reviewed.

The Linux smart interface is not as easy to navigate as others.

This Sony TV falls right in the middle of our lineup in terms of image quality and convenience, but the inexpensive price tag makes this TV an intriguing option.
