Sharp LC-32GD8E review

A well-priced big-brand 32in LCD TV

At £800, it's well-priced ; Excellent response time ; Has a built-in tuner

Skimps on the connections ; Shows strong evidence of MPEG noise ; Some blacks can look blue - unnatural

As cheap as chips but not that powerful. Ideal for first-time HD TV buyers on a budget

Sharp Aquos LC-37GD8E LCD television

The 37-inch GD8E from Sharp is part of its Aquos range and offers an elegant mid-range solution for the modern user. The minimal but effective design makes for an attractive addition to a living room, and a built-in DTV tuner means that you can enjoy a...

Excellent picture quality, effective interface and image control, HD-ready, built in DTV tuner

Bass suffers at higher levels, only one HDMI port

Despite its minor foibles the GD8E is an excellent panel that falls in line with the high display and build quality we’ve seen in many of Sharp’s recent offerings. Bearing in mind you pick it up online for under a grand it comes highly recommended.

Sharp LC-32GD8

Sharp's LC-32GD8 is an entry-level screen that's the most competitively priced model here, especially if you shop around online. However, you can expect a few compromises for the privilege of paying less.

Great value, sleek styling, interactive adjustment options, good performance for the price

Average build quality, limited connectivity, no advanced processing, bleached black levels

Sharp LC32GD8E

Very good all round LCD TV at a very reasonable price at the time of purchase

Does generate a lot of heat and channel selection can be frustrating at times using the EPG menu

Sharp LC32GD8E

Good sound and picture quality, can connect several devices to it via scart leads etc

Scart leads connect at top right hand side of the TV, would be better if they were lower down - more people will have other devices in a cabinet under the TV
