Asus MeMO Pad Smart 10

A 10-inch Android tablet that sells for under £300. Should the Nexus 10 be worried?

Expandable memory ; Solid connectivity options ; Easy-going software customisation

Mediocre screen ; Nexus 10 represents better value

For example, while Real Racing 3 plays just fine on the MeMO Pad Smart 10, the frame rate appeared lower than the same game running on an iPad 4 - despite the iPad's increased screen resolution. That said, while we have complained about the limited...

Asus Memo Pad 10

The Asus Memo Pad 10 joins devices such as the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 and HP Slate HD 10 HD among the burgeoning ranks of budget 10in Android tablets. However, despite being priced at only £180, the Memo Pad 10 finds itself struggling to really stand...

Despite the modest price and reasonable performance, the Asus Memo Pad 10 is sorely lacking in star quality

Asus Memo Pad Smart 10

Meet the Asus Memo Pad Smart 10, one of a new breed of full size, full fat and low priced Android tablets. With a 10.1-inch display, Android “Jelly Bean” and a nippy Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, it can handle just about all the apps and games...

From a distance, you’d be forgiven for thinking the Asus Memo Pad Smart 10 was an iPad - it’s a thin, sturdy light frame with a large screen as the centrepiece. In some ways though, it has advantages over the iPad: you can pop in a micro SD card to add...

It goes with the territory, but as solid as the Asus Memo Pad Smart 10 is, it’s also a bit bland. The plastic finish won’t wow you like the cool metal of an iPad chassis - it just gets the job done

Not too long ago, an Android tablet like this would have cost £400, and been twice as thick. Now, at a mere £229.99, the Asus Memo Pad Smart 10 represents serious value for money, with few drawbacks. Of course, if you can stretch just £40 further you...

Review Asus Memo Pad ME172V Tablet

Affordable brand name - continued. Acer successfully got the ball

Good workmanship; Generous memory capacity; Fast internal storage; Pleasant weight

Moderate choice of materials; No Bluetooth or GPS; Average battery life; Low-quality camera

The absolute contender is Acer's Iconia B1, with which Asus' Memo Pad almost pulls even. However, it also has to compete against Google's Nexus 7 and Prestigio's MultiPad 7.0 Prime Duo.

ASUS MeMO Pad Android tablet (preview)

The ASUS MeMO Pad is a competively priced 7in Android tablet

Competitive price ; microSD card slot ; Non-slip finish on back

Low resolution screen ; No rear-facing camera

The ASUS MeMO Pad is a low-cost, 7in Android tablet that will sell for $50 less than the Nexus 7 when it launches Down Under in "early March".

Asus MeMO Pad ME172V

The Asus MeMO Pad ME172V is a solid low-cost Android tablet for less demanding users, with reliable performance for lighter tasks like Web browsing and media consumption.

Affordable. Stable and responsive. Useful Android modifications. MicroSD card slot

Disappointing battery life. Narrow display viewing angle

As tablet makers race to the bottom, sacrifices have to be made to reach those bargain prices. Luckily for consumers, there are a number of budget friendly tablets that, while not hot rods, are perfectly suitable for activities like watching videos,...

ASUS MeMO Pad

The ASUS MeMO Pad delivers Android Jelly Bean and expandable memory for a very aggressive price, but you'll sacrifice display quality and performance.

Good sound quality; Multiple color options; Runs Android Jelly Bean; microSD Card Slot

Sluggish performance; Poor display quality; Below-average battery life

Click to EnlargeAt $149, the ASUS MeMO Pad is $50 less than the Google Nexus 7 and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, and it gives you expandable memory (something those two pricier slates lack). The audio quality is also pretty good for the price. However,...

Asus Memo Pad ME172V (gray)

Regardless of the Asus Memo Pad ME172V's attractively low $149 price, you shouldn't buy it. Its performance is slow, it crashes when attempting to play some of the latest games, and the narrow viewing angle and low resolution of the screen make it look...

The Asus Memo Pad ME172V carries a low $149 price and its storage can be expanded through a built-in microSD slot.

The screen's low resolution produces only fuzzy text, and its painfully narrow viewing angle hides detail. Overall system performance is slow, and the tablet crashes when attempting to run some of the latest games. It also burns through battery life...

The Asus Memo Pad ME172V won't set you back a ton, but with much better choices only $50 away, you should simply pay more now and regret less later.

Asus MeMo Pad Smart 10 (blue)

If I were to imagine what makes a good tablet, I'd think along two lines: affordable 7- and 8-inch models, and more fully featured 10-inchers. Can there be a middle ground? The Asus MeMo Pad Smart 10 is a tablet that, really, is like a supersize...

The Asus MeMo Pad Smart 10 has a rear-facing camera, microSD and Micro-HDMI ports, and solid performance for a budget tablet.

Lacks a super-high-resolution display; overall plastic feel.

Imagine a Nexus 7's innards expanded to a 10-inch tablet and you've got the Asus MeMo Pad Smart 10. Now ask yourself: why wouldn't you want something better?
