Boston Acoustics Soundware XS5.1SE review

Detailed, solid sound from this dinky, affordable speaker package

Cute, tidy looks ; detailed, controlled and convincing sound

Not short of competition

Shinier than before and just as enjoyable to listen to, this excellent little Boston Acoustics package is a must-hear

Boston Acoustics Soundware XS review

Best style speaker package up to £500, Awards 2010. It's small, sturdy and well priced too

Small but sturdy ; included wall brackets offer versatility ; cohesive, balanced, full-bodied sound

Very little, considering the price and form

Now replaced with the Soundware XS5.1SE. Best style speaker package up to £500, Awards 2010. It’s been a while since we’ve enjoyed a budget 5.1 package that sounds this good. Now replaced with the Soundware XS5.1SE

SoundWare XS 5.1 review

As good as the SoundWare XS 5.1 system is for its size, it can't defy physics. The Pioneer SP-PK21BS sounds much, much better, but it's also a much, much larger speaker system. And even if living room decor is your priority, you should seriously...

The Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1 speaker system is one of the most compact and stylish systems we've seen. It sounds much better than you'd expect given its size, and it's very affordable.

The Boston's cramped speaker-wire connectors are difficult to use. And if you don't need extremely small speakers, you can find better-sounding (and still stylish) speakers for the same price.

The Boston SoundWare XS 5.1 is an exceptionally compact system and sounds great for its size--although larger systems sound even better.

Boston SoundWare XS 5.1 Review

Boston Acoustics is attempting to out-cube the masters of cube with their SoundWare XS system. At $500, it complete with five cubes, a sub, and a very innovative design and mounting system.

Small ; Versatile mounting system ; Very nice sub for the size/price

At higher volumes can be fatiguing ; Cubes demand high crossover point

Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1-Review

An ultra-compact 5.1 home-theatre speaker system sounds like a highly compromised solution for hardened videophiles, though a highly desirable solution for lifestyle consumers. It is a large gap between what videophiles and music lovers can live with...

TECHNOLOGY The speakers, as mentioned earlier, are very small, but that is the only place Boston has skimped. Attention to details, build quality, cabinet design, mounting versatility—you name it and Boston has treated it very seriously. Speaker set...

Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1 Speaker System

Gaze back into the mists of time, and you'll find that the earliest loudspeakers were boxes with nothing but right angles. This shape lends itself to efficient manufacturing techniques and is still used for most speakers. However, speaker designers...

The SoundWare XS 5.1 system was a little harder to set up than it should have been, but its speaker terminals are nice and sturdy. They are neither binding posts nor wire clips, but something in between-a sort of spring-loaded binding post, or a...

Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1 Loudspeaker SystemReview

Good construction and killer performance make these teeny speakers and monster subwoofer a nice starter system for any budding audiophile.

In this economy, it's hard to justify new speakers. However, the SoundWare XS 5.1 system packs a roomful of fun into one small $500 package. There are plenty of other systems out there that are slightly cheaper, but Boston Acoustics' quality is worth...

Consumer review (cnet.com)

Crystal clear sounds defy laws of physics.

Who said bigger is better? Winning design- speaker's polygonal shape allows it to be pointed at an angle or just firing forwards. Unobtrusive speakers means its sounds ambush you with a smack & a smile. Woofer is a rock solid down-firing 100W...

Easy set up. Audiophile sound quality. Robust, refined build quality. Unique design. Unobtrusive. Woofer down-firing with configurable back panel. Chic, sexy & aesthetic.

Makes you wonder why you paid so much and broke your back setting up those larger and more expensive speakers.
