Acoustic Energy AE1 Active Review | Trusted Reviews

Convenience without compromise - the AE1 Active speakers have a lot to recommend them

Fine build and finish ; Enthusiastic, even-handed and versatile sound

Really not that much

The AE1 Actives are an accomplished pair of speakers – and at their price, it's difficult to think of a competing package that could match their performance – whether in terms of more traditional, passive alternatives or fellow active speaker rivals...

Acoustic Energy AE1 Active review

The AE1 Active speakers can outperform plenty of more expensive components.

Clear, balanced and detailed ; Rhythmically exciting with fine dynamic range ; Adjustable treble and bass for versatile placement

Nothing of note

It’s difficult to think of an amplifier/passive speakers combo that could better these Acoustic Energy active speakers at the price

Acoustic Energy AE1 Classic review

Acoustic Energy AE1 Classic standmount speakers are certainly classics, but not quite the best around

Substantial build ; an open and informative sound

The treble can be provoked ; they could sound a touch more organic

Classics, certainly. But not quite the best around

Acoustic Energy AE1 MkIII SE review

A number of revisions to the AE1 MkIII have resulted in an even more musically involving speaker, with agility, detail and forceful dynamics

Amazing speed and detail resolution ; class-leading clarity ; excellent build

Small size means sonic authority falls short of larger rivals

If you want a tiny, top-class monitor, these AE1 Mk III SEs are a must-audition

Acoustic Energy AE1 Classic review

AE has gone back to its roots with this Classic AE1

Beautifully balanced midband ; Impressively wide dynamic range

Bass is weak ; Top end rather obvious

Sharply priced classic replica looks good and does most things well, though more bass is needed

Acoustic Energy AE1 MKIII - £2,000

Acoustic Energy gives its traditional substantially built miniature a classy cosmetic makeover

Acoustic Energy AE1 Active HiFi Stand Mount Speaker Review

Is the new AE1 Active HiFi Speaker worthy of the Acoustic Energy name?

Refined yet punchy and accurate sound ; Well made ; Fleixble in terms of partnering equipment ; Handsome and well made

Won't flatter poor equipment and signals ; Wood finish a little orange ; Ultimate limits to headroom

Acoustic Energy AE1 Classic

Of all the so-called classic products in the hi-fi world this is one of the few that deserves that epithet. The original AE1 was introduced in 1988 and has gone through a number of changes since that time, resulting in the super sexy AE1 MkIII...

Hardcore styling, good power handling and bass for size

Not to everyone's aesthetic tastes and not as smooth as some

Acoustic Energy AE1 Active Loudspeakers

I found the comparison between the AE1 Active and LS50 Wireless II very telling. The AE1 Actives definitely held their own against the KEFs, which have already received a Reviewers' Choice award. And I gotta think KEF's LS50WII will be in the running...

Consumer review (richersounds.com)

Superb sounds.

Two weeks in and they keep getting better and better. I use Cambridge Audio Azur 851 CD player through the balanced outputs with Chord 3 metre cables to these beautifully made and finished speakers on Hi Fi Racks Oak speaker stands. I am very happy...
