Samsung 840 Pro 512GB review

Is there anything Samsung isn't good at?

Fastest 512GB drive we have tested ; Good 4K random read figure

Newer drives beat it on price

This is a very fine drive: not only is it one of the quickest around, it comes with the peace of mind that you're buying from a big outfit that is very unlikely to disappear. If you do have a problem, the odds of being able to cash in your warranty are...

Samsung 840 Pro 256GB review

Well over £200 for a 256GB SSD? Aren't SSD prices supposed to be going down, not up?

Good performance ; TLC flash memory ; New controller and firmware

Slight drop off in performance over time

Samsung 840 Pro 512 GB review

Samsung backs this MLC-based drive with a 5-year warranty, although platform support is resolutely limited to Windows. It's possible to adjust over-provisioning using the SSD Magician for Windows software, as well as run rudimentary benchmark tests.

There's little doubt that when working correctly the Samsung 840 Pro is one of the top consumer solid-state drives available today. Pricing is very competitive and the essential small-file IOPS performance is on the money too.

Samsung 840 Pro review

Quick, but it isn't fast or cheap enough to beat our favourite high-end SSD

Samsung 840 Pro 256GB review

Samsung's model 840 Pro is the fastest 240GB SSD we've tested.

The Samsung 840 Pro is currently the fastest consumer SSD on the market. You'll pay a little more for it, but you always pay more for the best.

Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD Review

Samsung's 840 Pro is hardly a new drive but it also happens to be one of the most highly regarded SSDs currently available. The reason for this is

While our review of the Samsung 840 Pro may be a bit late but with updated NAND, additional features and being rolled out in the last few

Samsung SSD 840 Pro (256GB) - Here Comes Big Daddy

The Samsung SSD 840 Pro arrives in our labs with big expectations. Widely acclaimed, we find out if it how it fares against some of the best SSDs we have tested.

Blistering performance on AS SSD, CrystalDiskMark and Iometer; Intuitive and useful Samsung Magician control panel; Completely in-house developed (memory, controller and firmware)

Inconsistent performance; No accessories such as installation bracket; Commands considerable premium over other high-end SSDs

Samsung 840 Pro SSD: More Speed, Less Power, And Toggle-Mode 2.0

Samsung is taking the wraps off its new flagship 840 Pro SSD. It's promising better performance, lower power consumption, a five-year warranty, ...

Our 512 GB sample includes eight ICs marked K9PHGY8U7A-CCK0. According to Samsung's decoder ring, the P indicates an MLC octal die configuration, while HG tells us that each package is 512 Gb (64 GB). So, we have eight 64 Gb die per package, yielding...

Samsung SSD 840 Pro solid state drive

This drive is one of the best upgrades available for laptops and desktops that need a speed boost

Fast reading and writing speeds ; Very light ; Can be found at a good price ; 5-year warranty

Power consumption reduction not significant against other recent SSDs we've seen

Samsung's SSD 840 Pro is one of the best options on the market if you're looking for a solid state drive with excellent writing, as well as reading performance. It's also one of the lightest units we've seen.

Synthetic benchmark does show bigger numbers in favor of the PRO while applications trace testing even the playfield
