HP StorageWorks Ultrium 3000 review

A tape drive employing LTO-5 technology to enhance capacity and throughput

Breaks the 1TB per cartridge barrier; enhanced throughput compared to LTO-4 products; backwards compatibility; integrated AES encryption

Don't expect to achieve the claimed capacities or transfer rates; HBA not included; bundled single server backup software doesn't support Windows Server 2008 R2; expensive compared to disk-based alternatives

Based on fifth-generation LTO technology, the HP StorageWorks Ultrium 3000 offers double the capacity of earlier LTO-4 products. It's also faster, but you're unlikely to get the 1TB/hour performance claimed.

REVIEW: HP StorageWorks Ultrium 3000

Despite the ever falling cost of disk-based storage there's still a healthy market for tape which continues to be used for backup and long term archiving. There has, however, been a lot of consolidation both in terms of products and vendors with, as a...

For new buyers it’s got a lot to offer with library implementations delivering the best value. There are, though, plenty of alternatives around based on the same technology. We wouldn’t rush to recommend this product to smaller companies. Not because...

HP StorageWorks 2000sa review

The HP 2000sa G2 Modular Smart Array is the first storage system we've received that uses 2.5-inch drives, fitting 24 drives into a 2U chassis rather than the usual 16-drive 3U chassis that we see on most systems.

With 24 15k drives, the 2000sa offers a lot of performance in a small space, and at a reasonable price. It should even be more energy-efficient than other systems with similar capacities, due to the small power requirements of the 2.5-inch drives.

This card can handle anything I throw at it. The lowest I've seen FPS go in BF3 & COD, on ultra settings, is 53. This is the best value in its class,

Its an Enterprise drive, I think I have replaced 1 in 9 years...

Its an HP SAS drive. It plugs in and it works. I think I have replaced 1 in nine years. A smaller data center but the stuff seems to run forever. More expensive than non-manufacturer specific but if you have an HP server this is what you get.
