Honeywell Lyric Round smart thermostat review: Location-based climate control

This thermostat uses your smartphone to know when you're home and away.

Learns your preferences quickly ; Reliably set it and forget it ; Excellent display screen

Some initial networking issues ; Geofencing feature wasn’t always reliable ; Requires smartphone to set up and operate properly

While it still has some flaws and refinement to work out, the Honeywell Lyric Round worked very well at learning my household’s erratic patterns. Within a couple days, it sank into the background without any need for adjustment.

Honeywell Lyric Thermostat (Second Generation) review

I reviewed Honeywell's original Lyric thermostat in July 2014. A direct response to startup Nest's (now Google's/Alphabet's Nest ) round Learning thermostat (now in its third iteration ), the Lyric boasted a familiar, Nest-esque hardware design, as...

Honeywell's $250 second-gen Lyric thermostat works with Apple's HomeKit platform, so you can tell Siri to adjust the temperature for you -- along with other related commands. You can also control the Lyric 2.0 via the SmartThings and Lutron apps.

Sure, Apple fans can set up Siri voice control with this thermostat, but HomeKit isn't all that easy to configure and even then, it isn't particularly reliable. And you can forget about geofencing; Honeywell's location-based Home/Away feature didn't...

It may be version 2.0, but Honeywell still has a lot of kinks to work out with this temperamental HomeKit-compatible thermostat.

Honeywell Lyric

The Honeywell Lyric is a stylish Wi-Fi thermostat that you can control from your smartphone. It uses geofencing to conserve energy while you're away, and to heat or cool your home before you return.

Easy to install and configure. Supports geofencing. Uses outdoor weather data for optimal heating and cooling.

No Web app. Lacks detailed usage reports.

Conclusions The Honeywell Lyric thermostat is a great choice for homeowners who don't follow a regular heating and cooling routine. Its geofencing feature lets you come and go as you please without having to worry about resetting the thermostat every...

Honeywell Lyric 2nd Generation Review

Of the programmable thermostats we tested, the Honeywell Lyric is one of the best for temperature control and customer support. Technology like geofencing and multistage temperature control increase its energy efficiency. Still, it can be difficult to...

The Honeywell Lyric has the best customer support of any programmable thermostat in our review.

The thermostat's interface can only be used for basic temperature control.

The Honeywell Lyric is an excellent thermostat with a sleek design. Its smart technology can regulate temperature while you're home and turn it down to save energy while you're away, but you may want a professional to set it up for you.

The thermostat and its mobile app can be difficult to use

Honeywell Lyric is an excellent thermostat with a sleek design. However, it is not as easy to use as the other programmable thermostats in our review.

I'll never trust it again

I had to have the original replaced by the company due to it not working properly. I had the new one 8 months and during that time I had to constantly reset the wifi and toward the end of that time the thermostat would turn off and on for no reason....

Easy to use and customer service

Multiple malfunctions

Best Thermostat around

I totally disagree with CNet's review, I have not had any trouble with geofencing. Sounds like they did not do a thorough review. I think this product is way better than the nest because you do not need to set up some silly schedule if your not going...

Awesome Customer Service, geofencing, no c-wire needed
