Google Home Mini

Google Home Mini review: Finally, an affordable way to have Google all over your house. Watch out, Amazon Echo Dot.

Good looks ; Affordable

No 3.5mm or Bluetooth audio output ; No top touch controls besides volume

An affordable way to have Google everywhere, but it’s far less flexible than the Amazon Echo Dot.

Google Home Mini review

A smart wireless speaker on a budget...

Affordable Google Assistant ; Chromecast compatibility ; Fine sound for speech radio

Sound quality is average for music ; No aux or Bluetooth output ; Device support could be better

There’s room for improvement with all AI devices, but the Home Mini does what it sets out to do in fine style

Google Home Mini review: Great voice-assistant, not-so-great speaker

There's nothing especially remarkable about Google Home Mini, except perhaps one thing: it does everything the bigger one, but is much, much smaller.

Attractive design ; Google Assistant delivers good responses to questions ; Growing support for third-party devices

Fabric won't clean easily ; No audio output ; Sound quality isn't great (but then it's not designed as a speaker for music ; Really)

There's nothing especially remarkable about Google Home Mini, except perhaps one thing: it does everything the bigger Home product does, but is much, much smaller.

Google Home Mini review

This voice-controlled doughnut of power is a genuine Echo Dot rival

Fluffy, friendly design ; Sounds better than an Echo Dot ; Just as knowledgeable as bigger Home ; Strong smart home support ; Recognises the voices of up to six people and gives personalised replies ; Good value

Doesn't have a 3.5mm line-out or have Bluetooth out ; Touch buttons on the top have been disabled ; Still favours Google services over others ; Echo still more versatile for music and shopping

The friendliest and most knowledgeable mini smart speaker around, but the Echo Dot remains the better all-rounder

Google Home Mini review

Small on sound, big on value

Integrates with Google Cast ; Offers Bluetooth support ; IoT-friendly ; Incredible value

Sound performance is weak

The Home Mini is the cheapest way of buying into the Assistant yet for those looking to buy into Google’s smart home ecosystem. While it's a good value for the price, its poor sound performance makes it a better desk buddy than a standalone speaker....

Google Home Mini vs Echo Dot: Which shrunken smart speaker is better?

Only have a limited budget to make your home smart? Then you'll want the best mini speaker on offer…

This is a shame, because in every other respect the Google Home Mini is the clear winner. Maybe next time Google will learn this lesson and put all the connectors in the right place.

Google Home Mini review: Google's dinky smart speaker is now £39

Google's compact smart speaker offers a cheap gateway into a smart home utopia

Affordable ; Stylish design with touch controls ; Integrated Google Assistant and speaker

No 3.5mm jack output

On its own, though, is it better than Echo Dot? The answer to that question is ultimately a no and that’s purely down to the ecosystem. Alexa as a system is not only more mature with more capabilities, but it also has wider support amongst third-party...

The Google Home Mini is a worthy competitor to the Amazon Echo Dot

It no longer matters which one came first. The Google Home Mini is ready to take its place alongside the Dot as one of the best affordable smart speakers out there.

The Google Home Mini puts all of the smarts of Google Assistant into a small and affordable package. The Mini sounds surprisingly good for its size and features a colorful design that can blend into your home's decor.

The Mini's touch controls aren't intuitive, it doesn't have a line-out jack like the Amazon Echo Dot, and the built-in Google Assistant still doesn't have quite as many features as the Dot's built-in assistant, Alexa.

The Google Home Mini stands tall as one of the best affordable smart speakers out there, along with the Amazon Echo Dot, but it doesn't do enough to supplant the Dot at the top of the list.

Google Home Mini review

Echo might be better known, but Google Home is the better device. Now there's a mini version at an unbeatable price. We explain why this smart speaker should be top of your Christmas list in our Google Home Mini review.

We're clearly big fans of the Google Assistant, and any device that makes it more accessible to the masses is well worth a second look in our book. If budget was no option then the standard Google Home offers significantly better audio quality, but for...

TicHome Mini needs more than Google Assistant and a battery to save it

This battery-powered Google Assistant speaker has a lot going for it, but it lacks polish.

With Google Assistant built-in, the Mobvoi TicHome Mini can do almost everything the Google Home Mini can do, plus it's battery-powered, splash-proof, and it even sounds a little better than the Google Home Mini.

The TicHome doesn't hear as well as the Google Home Mini. Its battery-life isn't great. It can't make calls like the Mini, and I wish it had a power and battery-life indicator.

Minor annoyances hold the TicHome Mini back from being a true Google Home Mini alternative, but it works well enough to warrant consideration as a feature-rich Bluetooth speaker.
