Amazon Echo

Imagine a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi speaker, but one with a voice-controlled personal assistant inside. That's the Amazon Echo, which gives you a personal assistant called Alexa. She is the first AI personal assistant to merit a dedicated device. She will...

Here is a program I just invented with Alexa.

Amazon Echo review: Amazon's main Echo gets cheaper, Alexa gets better

While Alexa is improving all the time and the Echo is great value for money, those looking for top-notch audio quality will be disappointed

Great music and list making ; You can shop through it ; Best. Kitchen timer. Ever.

Very middling as a speaker ; Lots of clonky apps ; Echo Dot is better value

Amazon Echo review

Is Amazon's voice-controlled speaker the answer to your smart home dream?

Alexa voice assistant is genuinely useful ; Reliable voice control ; Decent selection of features ; Easy to use

Sound is nothing special ; Relies on other apps and devices to make the most of it

So-so sound but the Alexa assistant makes this a seriously clever speaker

Amazon Echo review: Alexa! You're great though we wish you did more

Amazon Echo is a brilliant, voice-activated personal assistant so futuristic that its true purpose still lies in the future

Great music and list making ; You can shop through it ; Best. Kitchen timer. Ever

Only middling as a speaker ; Lots of clonky apps ; Echo Dot seems better value

Amazon Echo review: It's all about Alexa

Amazon launched the Echo - its cylindrical, internet-connected Bluetooth-capable speaker - in the US back in 2015. Just over a year later and the Echo has finally made its way to the UK. Hurrah. We think hands-free voice control is a godsend and that...

Alexa is a very useful personal assistant, quality mic technology for conversing and getting clear answers, sleek looking speaker design, easy setup, lots of compatible services - and more to come

App isn't that well designed, no battery for portability, not class-leading speaker quality, Echo Dot makes more sense, you'll want Prime to make the most of it

We think hands-free voice control is a godsend and that Alexa, Amazon Echo's personal assistant, truly distinguishes this Bluetooth speaker from the competition. It's blown our minds - whether for listening to music, adding to our shopping list,...

Amazon Echo review

Are you ready to hand the keys to your digital life over to Alexa? We find out just how smart Amazon's smart speaker can be

Stellar audio quality ; Impressive voice recognition ; Useful hands-free apps

No hands-free calls, texts or emails ; Somewhat creepy

The AI revolution starts here - Alexa can control your house, and pulls a great double duty as DJ

Amazon Echo review

Much too foreign for AI

Attractive design ; Dependable voice recognition

No real usefulness ; Audio quality is average

If you’re asking us whether the Echo is a device you need, the answer is a firm no. But as geeks and early adopters of technology, we do like what it stands for. It’s a mere party trick at times. If you're asking me whether the Echo is a device you...

Amazon Echo (2014) review

Amazon Echo is stunning, sleek and slowly becoming more sentient

Intelligent voice recognition ; Large ecosystem and growing ; Well built

Caters to Prime ; Lackluster sound quality ; Multi-user support lacking

As purely a Bluetooth speaker, the Echo leaves a lot to be desired. Paired with a natural, engrossing AI, however, Amazon's grand experiment in artificial intelligence is one of the most interesting gadgets of recent years.

Amazon Echo: The speaker of the house

Amazon's smart speaker was arguably the breakout product of 2015. Two years later, Alexa is still going strong.

Amazon's voice-activated smart home speaker is undeniably futuristic, but it's also practical and accessible. With a rapidly growing slate of features, integrations and use cases, it's easy to get excited about the Echo's potential.

The Echo's sound quality is slightly uneven at times, with weak bass at high volumes. It also can't distinguish between different voices like the Google Home smart speaker can.

More than two years after its debut, the smarter-than-ever Amazon Echo remains one of the best connected home products money can currently buy.

Amazon Echo review: Echo 2 is official, but what's new?

The Alexa-enabled speaker connects your living room space to Amazon's services, but what about the Echo 2?

Great design and clever voice-recognition software ; Great sound quality ; Compatible with smart home kit

Works best with an Amazon Prime membership ; Occasionally mixes up words

Amazon's Echo certainly does plenty right. You'll get more out of it as a Prime customer – and a Spotify Premium account holder, for that matter – but if you like the idea of having a virtual butler at your beck and call to manage your shopping list,...
