Amazon Echo (2017)

Everything you loved about the original in a smaller, cheaper package.

Excellent value ; Easy to set up ; Expandable range of skills ; Clean audio and simple voice control

Similarly priced speakers offer better sound

It doesn’t have the audio prowess to take on the best Bluetooth speakers. However, clear audio, great looks and a significantly lower price than the original make this smart assistant a winner.

Amazon Echo 2 review

Cheaper, smarter and better at listening – but sound needs improvement.

Alexa voice control ; Improved hearing commands ; Smart design ; Affordable

Average sound quality

Everything from the price to the microphone performance has improved. Unfortunately, sound quality hasn't

Amazon Echo review: The best way to experience Alexa?

If you want to dip your toe into the world of Alexa, the Echo might seem like the obvious choice. However, with the Plus better for music and the Show

Alexa is a wonderful smart home controller ; Compact design with changeable skins ; Lots of third-party compatibility ; Affordable price

Sound quality isn't great ; No physical volume control ring ; Software is occasionally buggy

The Amazon Echo with Alexa voice control is difficult to ignore thanks to its £90 asking price - remember, the 2014 model was £149! - and bevy of features.

Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) review

Alexa gets a brand new look

More compact and colourful ; Alexa is constantly getting smarter ; Great price

Sound is merely OK

All the same smarts, but for a lot less cash. For first time smart speaker buyers, the new Echo is a no-brainer

Amazon Echo review

Amazon's smart speaker is now a whole lot smarter, in looks at least

New look ; Low price ; Great new Alexa features

More of the same ; Alexa app could be better ; No more rotating dial

While the smarts stay the same, the new Amazon Echo has been given a much-needed makeover with a price just too compelling to resist.

Amazon Echo 2 review

We review the second-gen Amazon Echo, a mains-powered smart speaker with the Alexa voice assistant. It's smaller and cheaper than the original, and has swappable shells so you can change how it looks.

Amazon Echo (2017) review

Three years after the debut of the original, Amazon decided the time was right to refresh its flagship smart speaker, the voice-activated Amazon Echo. Generation two arrives to find a landscape littered with new competitors -- not just the Google Home...

With a variety of new designs, the new Amazon Echo is better-looking than the original, just as smart and a lot less expensive. The addition of an aux-out jack lets you connect it with your existing audio setup. It's also a slightly better listener...

Though fine for casual listening and strong enough to fill a room with music, the Echo still doesn't sound as good as premium, high-fidelity speakers. The volume ring of the original is gone, replaced with the cheaper volume buttons of the Echo Dot.

Alexa is still the most compelling voice control platform, and the new and improved Echo should only boost her momentum. It's well worth $100.

Livescribe Echo Smartpen review

If you spend a lot of time in lectures or meetings or conduct interviews, you'll probably have acquired a variety of tools to help you track the information, from traditional notebooks to voice recorders or even special apps for your mobile phone....

Livescribe's Echo is the most useful smartpen we've seen, and a brilliant buy for anyone who attends meetings regularly or conducts interviews

Livescribe Echo Smartpen review

The coolest thing about the Livescribe Echo (and the Pulse before it) is its ability to record and play back audio - with an innovative twist. Instead of requiring you to cycle through your recorded audio to find the clip you want, the Echo ties audio...

Livescribe's latest is a good addition to its smartpen family: the Livescribe Echo is thinner and more comfortable than its predecessor, and it will certainly appeal to students who have a penchant for falling asleep in lecture. It's one of those rare...

Amazon Echo 2 review: 2nd-gen Echo adds more features

The new Amazon Echo 2 is smaller and adds new features — plus it's cheaper than the last one

Cheaper than the original ; Smaller, with new design options ; New Alexa features

Much the same as the original

Regardless, if you’ve been hesitant in the past about plonking an always-listening device in your home, the Echo 2 is proof that these devices do indeed have a future, and they keep getting better and better. Amazon’s Echo 2 is definitely worthy of...
