D-Link mydlink Home Smart Plug

An easy and powerful way to control your plug sockets from your phone

Really easy to set up and use ; Much more convenient than timed plug sockets ; Works anywhere around the world

Plug's a bit big ; Expensive for such a simple device

It may be pricey compared to traditional timed plug sockets, but the D-Link Smart Plug does enough extra and works well enough to convince us that it’s a worthy investment. Simply never having to worry again about whether you remembered to switch your...

This controller will turn lights and other devices on and off—and that's about it.

Can power devices on and off according to a schedule ; Measures power consumption and lets you set limits ; Automatically shuts off if it overheats

Can't dim a connected lamp ; Can't automatically turn off after another device triggers it to turn on ; Android app is buggy

This is one of the least-intelligent smart plugs I've encountered. As cheap as it is, it's too expensive for what it delivers.

D-Link mydlink Wi-Fi Smart Plug (DSP-W215)

D-Link's mydlink Wi-Fi Smart Plug lets you turn small appliances on and off, track their power usage, and create power schedules using your iOS or Android device, but it's a bit bulky and doesn't support IFTTT recipes.

Easy to install. Monitors power consumption. Multiple scheduling options.

Bulky. Does not support IFTTT. No cost monitoring.

Conclusion The mydlink Wi-Fi Smart Plug from D-Link offers a relatively easy and affordable way to remotely control specific devices in your home without the need for a hub. It uses your existing Wi-Fi network and lets you turn things on and off with...

D-Link's Wi-Fi Smart Plug needs to wise up

Can D-Link's $50 Wi-Fi Smart Plug impress without IFTTT compatibility?

D-Link's $50 Wi-Fi Smart Plug offers remote control of your small appliances, including scheduling and energy usage stats -- a better value than the $60 Belkin WeMo Insight Switch, which has similar features.

The Smart Plug isn't compatible with IFTTT, setup was surprisingly involved, performance was unreliable, and the app design could use some work.

D-Link needs to partner with IFTTT and fix performance inconsistencies to match the versatility and convenience of Belkin's WeMo Switch and WeMo Insight Switch.

Plug gives control, data on power consumption, but application needs work

Monitoring capability ; Setup ; Size
