Plustek OpticBook 3600

This speedy scanner, designed especially to scan bound books, produced mediocre image quality.

The Plustek OpticBook 3600 is ideal if you need a fast book scanner. If you don't, look elsewhere.

Plustek OpticBook 3600

The Plustek OpticBook 3600 can scan loose pages, including photos, but it does its best work with books.

Offers special features for scanning pages from books. OCR is fully automatic and works well for scanning from both books and other sources.

No ADF. Photo scanning lacks features like dust removal and color restoration. Photos aren't as sharp as they should be for the scan resolution.

Plustek Optibook 3600 - PCQuest

This book scanner uses SEE (Shadow Elimination Element) technology, which enables you to scan pages clearly and edge-to-edge. So, no touching-up is required as for those scanned by flat-bed scanners.

Review: Plustek OpticBook 3600 book scanner

For a long time now, scanners have been a great way to make copies of photos and documents. On the other hand, books have always presented a unique problem for scanners. They are not flat, and therefore they do not fit well and always leave a black...

Setting up the plustek OpticBook 3600 is not that difficult. In fact, it is just like most other USB devices except it is slightly different. First and foremost you must unlock the scanner. The OpticBook 3600 has 3 states that the lock can be in....

Good scanner, improved software

I reviewed the scanner shortly after I first received it from Newegg. The software was then quite buggy. The software crashed frequently, and useful features simply did not work. The software is now much improved. I still avoid scanning more than about...

Good scanner for books, efficient scanning. Software is now fast and reliable

Book scanning is a slow process, scanning a typical book might require 2 hours. Software setup for scanning is very cumbersome. For example, the software defaults to storing the scans in a very strange location, every time I scan, I have to change the...

Good hardware, software is trash

Use the scanner buttons to access the scan-to-PDF function most easily, start with the 'preview' button. Make certain to select 'book' on the scanner panel.

Very good scanner for books, very reasonable price. Can scan hardcover books without damaging the binding or the pages. Good scanning speed

The software barely works, and is very buggy. On approximately 10 scans of about 10 pages, the software either crashed or discarded all pages after scanning on approximately 2 of them, apparently randomly. The software update was posted as an RAR file,...

Works for most books

I scan about 100 images and then close the Digibook program. I then use Acrobat and create a PDF from multiple files, save the PDF, then delete the scanned images (If you do it this way, your settings - i.e. scan area - is saved.) I repeat the process...

Takes about 30 minutes to scan a 200-page book (depends on how quickly you turn the book and flip pages). No more shadows on the scans. Does not destroy the book

Known issues with VIA chipset. Did not work on my desktop. I have a feeling this is because of TWAIN and nothing else. It works fine on my laptop

Perfect for books

Buy it if you need books scanning - for any other purposes - think twice - it a good scanner but for this price you can get from 3 to 5 regular ones (not pro but good enough for every day usage). This is specific device which can do the regular jobs.

Fast scanning. You don't have to tear and break your books. Very fast in b/w mode. NO PROMLEMS AT ALL! Never any shutdowns or lamp waiting - maybe I'm the lucky one who just has the lucky scanner. 5 books 1200-1340 pages each in 1 day - no questions!!...

Not Ready for Showtime

Plustek makes the only "edge" scanner for books. Unfortunately I spent a huge amount of time trying to get the thing to work with no success.

Excellent assortment of software. Ideal for scanning books when working

Scans were interrupted with repeated shutdowns. Lamp continually attempted to "warmup" for two or three minutes during scanning process. Software very buggy despite latest downloads of drivers etc.. Customer service was patient but never got the unit...

Product Specifications

Thanks to Plustek's patent pending SEE Technology, any book can lie completely flat on the scanning glass. The result is a perfectly scanned image with no annoying book spine shadow and no distorted lines of text. Whereas professional book scanners are targeted mainly for large libraries, archive museums, and corporations with big budgets, OpticBook 3600 is an affordable solution for all libraries, copy rooms, students, teachers, universities, SOHO, law offices, publicists, and work groups.
