Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED

The Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED is a high-performance yet affordable ($1695 MSRP) desktop scanner for 35mm and APS film and slides. It features a 3,946-pixel monochrome linear CCD that scans an area of 25.2 x 38mm (3946x5959 pixels) with an optical scann

Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED Film Scanner

The Basics The Super Coolscan 4000 ED is a compact desktop package that can operate in either of two orientations. Most users who don't advantage of the (optional) automatic slide feeder attachment will likely operate the unit standing upright, in...

As a tool for extracting the maximum amount of information from a piece of film, the Super Coolscan 4000 ED literally has no equal in the desktop scanner world. (At least, among the scanners we've tested to date.) Applying its full power involves a...

Nikon Coolscan 4000

Most slide films up to 100 ASA and Kodak E200 and Provia 400F have MUCH smaller grain than one of the finest grain negative films Fuji Superia Reala. Negative film scratches easily.

Great Resolution, Far From Automated

Batch Slide Scanning ; Digital ICE removes dust ; Firewire interface (card included)

Kodachrome, B/W get no Digital ICE ; Software interface unintuitive ; Slides often jam in feeder

Great Resolution, Far From Automated

I bought the Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED about a year ago to archive my family slides (~1,500 of them). Overall, I have been very pleased with its capabilities, especially when used with Ed Hamrick's Vuescan software.

A Phenomonal Lens, A phenomonal scanner does NOT make.

I Currently Work in the digital imaging "department" of a small Photo finishing chain, and since we are a Nikon dealer the obvious solution for our own slide and negative scanning needs seemed to be a Super Coolscan 4000 ed. Boy was I disapointed.

Top Drawer Resolution, Very Low Digital Noise, Powerfull Software

Slow Scan Speed, Mediocre Colour Accuracy, Complicated software, Poor B+W perfomance.
