The Epson Perfection V600 Photo has a SRP of £259.99, and will be available from 5 October 2009. Epson Scan software has been upgraded and now supports and Snow Leopard and Windows 7 the company said.

Film holders for 35mm, medium format and transparency (slide). Good OCR recognition. Excellent quality flatbed scans.

No support for film larger than 120. No calibration or profiling options.

For a photographer looking to transfer their analog films and slides to digital format, the V600 provides an affordable and versatile solution.

Frankly, we don't recommend a scanner at all. Figure an hour for every roll of film on your high-end flatbed scanner or even a dedicated 35mm scanner and, well, you retired too late. If the tedium doesn't kill you, something else will.And scanning...

To sum up, have a serious chat with yourself if you plan to scan a large film collection with a flatbed scanner. Consider using a local lab for the collection and investing in a high-end scanner with good software to tweak special images.The V600 is a...
