Yamaha RX-V381 review

This entry-level AV receiver isn't overflowing with features, but it's a focused performer...

Big, enveloping presentation ; Fast and articulate sound ; Particularly expressive with voices ; Dead easy to set up and use

Rivals are more fruitfully featured ; Lacks a little authority and solidity

A pleasingly entertaining, albeit scarcely featured, performer

Yamaha announces entry-level RX-V381 receiver has full 4K support

The snow may have melted, but 'tis the season for receiver announcements. Tralalalala lalalala. Yamaha is the latest company with good tidings for its upcoming refresh: the RX-Vx81 series.

Love it!

I bought this to replace my 15 years old Pioneer surround sound kit which was showing its age. It really didn't know how to interpret the various standards of sound it was receiving and tended therefore to send everything out of the centre speaker with...

Great kit at a great price

Does all you want perfectly; I'm really happy with my purchase. I still can't believe how cheap RS is selling these! Many thanks!

On the whole, very happy.

I bought this looking for a good-value amp that would allow me to add a centre speaker to improve TV dialogue. I'm happy with the sound although there is still some setup to do (modern surround audio will not always travel over optical cables, it turns...

Easy set up

Once I wasn't routing the same HDMI cable in and out it was a piece of cake to set up. Sounds so much better than my 15 year old Yamaha it replaced and 1/3rd of the price. First time I've used RS Mail Order, all worked nicely cheers :-)

Great sound

Bought just over a week ago to enhance the experience of watching movies and TV dramas. It has made everything more vivid, immersive and engaging. Great service at the shop. Simple set up with speakers, TV and components.

Dissatisfied

To be honest I don't have a clue what it sounds. I have a 4 k TV and I thought it was a case of just connecting my speakers and connecting a HDMI lead to my TV and the HDMI leads to the back of the amp and that's it. But it seems I have to configure it...
