Yamaha RX-V2600 review

Intro Luxury A/V receivers, such as Yamaha's RX-V2600 ($1,300 list), used to be easier to review. Once upon a time, higher-end models were mostly about sound quality, the overall look and feel, how easy they were to set up, and the smattering of...

The Yamaha RX-V2600 is an advanced 7.1-channel A/V receiver with advanced autosetup capabilities, the ability to upconvert analog video to HDMI (with upscaling to 720p/1080i), and an XM-ready satellite radio function. In addition to its high-end build...

Multilayered menus and baffling navigation design may confound even experienced home-theater mavens. And while the HDMI video options are impressive, inferior processing and the lack of 1080p support puts the Yamaha squarely behind Denon's comparable...

The Yamaha RX-V2600's seductive sound is matched by its up-to-the-minute features and stellar build quality, but its video options fall just short of the best we've seen.

Yamaha RX-V2600 Receiver Review

The Yamaha RX-V2600 is a paramount achievement in terms of the receiver market. Receivers are finally starting to pay almost as much attention to the second half of "audio-video".

HDMI 1.1 audio support ; Upconversion and scaling of SD analogue inputs to 720p/1080i via HDMI output ; Zone 2/3 remote with source select and XM controls ; Zone 2 with on-screen display (OSD)

No parametric EQ bands below 62.5Hz ; Spring clips for Presence/Zone 2/3 speakers ; Menu activity on DVDs causes HDMI dropouts to display ; No on-the-fly speaker level trims

Advanced 7.1-channel A/V receiver with advanced autosetup capabilities ; Ability to upconvert analog video to HDMI (with upscaling to 720p/1080i) ; XM-ready satellite radio function ; In addition to its high-end build quality, the receiver offers A/B...

Summing up, not only were we pleased by the Yamaha RX-V2600's sound, but the sumptuous look and feel of the design makes this receiver a pleasure to use and helps justify its premium price. But discriminating videophiles will be better served by the...

Yamaha RX-V2600

Contrary to what you may think, the life of an audio reviewer is not all about overseas trips, wining, dining and fast women laid on thick in order to win a few good words in your next review. No sir, it can be a lot of hard work and frustration. You...

Overall, the 2600 is one hell of a piece of kit. While it might not have ultimate musical subtlety you shouldn't be too concerned, as it more than acceptable with tunes. Anyway this isn't why you should buy Yamaha receivers. You should buy them for...

Yamaha RX-V2600 Receiver Review

Considering the PX-V2600 features a full-fat 1080i/720p video scaler and HDMI switching for under $2500, this latest model has all the right credentials to be an absolute first-class bargain before it's even out of the box.

GREAT freaking unit!!Wonderful quality and ease of use.

For the money, I could not find better and still a thrill after two years of use.

Handset is a snap after you run through it and give a chance. Not convoluted at all. To make this unit do what an older set would do you would need lots of knobs on the front. Clarity of sound is off the chart and extremely easy to set up the sound.

At first I too thought the wireless handset was a mystery. Until I started using it for awhile. Then it became much easier to use. But nothing to whine about and bring a review to it's knees for Christ sake!

Outstanding A/V receiver.

This is my second Yamaha receiver and I am impressed by the power and sound quality of the RX-V2600. Video up scaling feature to 1080i was the main reason we bought this unit. We almost bought the RX-V2700 for 1080P upscale but our screen does not...

Outstanding sound and power, THX Select 2, all the decoders you would want

Automatic calibration not as accurate as it could be, remote is somewhat confusing

World class A/V receiver

I just purchased the Yamaha Rx-v2600 and like the previous interviewer, initially thought the set-up would be daunting.
