Working to a tight budget? The Onkyo TX-SR308 will do a perfectly good job

Price ; three HDMI 1.4 inputs ; clear, simple interface ; controlled, inoffensive sound

Sounds too sedate ; lacks drive and punch

For the money the ’SR308 does a good job. It just lacks that streak of brilliance required from a five-star product

The SR308 is remarkably cheap for an AV receiver, particularly for a model that can decode the full set of audio formats used by Blu-ray discs, including Dolby TrueHD.

Classy sound quality, comprehensive Blu-ray format support, a decent smattering of sockets and great value

Best budget home theater receiver

 

Experts and users are pleased with the performance but floored by the value of the Onkyo TX-SR308. Things sound pretty good with music, and excellent with movie sound tracks. Even those reviewers with quibbles say that you'll need to spend a bit more...

Onkyo TX-SR308 For the price this unit is exelent, Sound Quality is great. The HDMI 1.4 gives it that little bit extra above others in this price range. On screen dissplay great. Got this because it's 5.1 and I had no room for extra speakers of a 7.1...

Would be a bit better if it the unit hight was lower by about 2cm had to remove a DVR to give it space, but can't have it all. Plus one more HDMI input would be also be nice. Onkyo TX-SR308 has 3 inputs and one output.

Not Great

 

The HDMI out on the receiver died after about 6 months. The waranty is worthless unless you keep the original box and pay a ton to ship it back. The service centers Onkyo listed on their site was false.
