Phantasy Star Portable PSP Review

Phantasy Star Portable is very much like a pocket-sized version of recent games in SEGA‘s RPG series; the only real major thing missing is the online mode. Sure, the game does have multiplayer of the offline variety, although each player needs a PSP...

Now, I'm off to level up and hopefully find some rare items.

Phantasy Star Portable (PSP) review

The Phantasy Star series has been around for over 20 years, but it did not start out as a game that was heavily focused on online play. The first title came out in 1987 on the Master System, which played like a traditional Japanese Role Playing Game....

In the end Phantasy Star Portable will only appeal to people who can play it with friends. As a single player game is feels rather mediocre as you traverse through the dreary story. It feels samey also, especially if you've played Phantasy Star...

Phantasy Star Portable

How do you justify the continuation of a franchise almost exclusively famous for its online gameplay when it doesn't feature any online modes? SEGA haven't thought about it much, so the oft-maligned Phantasy Star Universe has been taken, squished down...

But more often than not it feels stunted; starved for options that were never developed. For all its many graces, Phantasy Star Portable is the latest in a series that’s still trying to ride on its claim of being the first online console RPG, clumsily...

Phantasy Star: Portable PSP Review

The Phantasy Star series is one I missed the first time it came around, so when Sega released them again years later on the Gameboy Advance I went right out and bought it and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Since then I have not played...

Good Fun ; Fantastic customisation of characters ; Nice graphics and sound ; Good story line to keep you entertained

The movement system lacks depth and imagination ; Char AI is sometimes poor ; Level of difficulty is pretty steep from the beggining ; Very text heavy

Phantasy Star Portable Review for PSP

Phantasy Star Portable for PSP Review - The lack of online play is a disappointment, as is the overall sense that it's not quite as triple-A a product as it could have been, but as a PSP game it's certainly up there with the best of 2009.

Phantasy Star Portable (PSP) review

Sega's RPG comes to Sony's handheld...

A far cry from the Mega Drive outings and never even slightly touching upon that indescribable joy we felt playing PSO at 3am, we'll be waiting for Phantasy Star Zero to see if that instead can re-awaken the RPG magic the series once held above all...

We're not so sure quite why the designers were so keen on capital letters though

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Review

Prepare to get addicted all over again.

For a JRPG this big to be on a small PSP screen, PSP2 looks decent. Enemy models vary based on the different parts of the game world, landscapes are detailed and the character models look good. SEGA really went the extra mile when designing the...

Phantasy Star Portable 2

It?s amazing for veteran video game enthusiasts of the 16-bit era or older like me to look back on the development of franchises that continue to endure the test of time. Some franchises like Mario or Metroid soar gloriously beyond their roots. Other...

Phantasy Star Portable 2 is a bare bones dungeon crawler with little appeal beyond the Phantasy Star fandom

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Review

Robust customization and full multiplayer support make this interstellar adventure worthwhile.

Challenging real-time combat ; Great gear and character customization ; Fun online and ad hoc multiplayer ; Numerous unlockables and good replayability ; Good story

Irritating party AI ; Repetitive mission objectives ; Shallow exploration
