After Burner: Black Falcon

It's now become something of a cliched way to start a review, and could be blasted for edging towards "New Games Journalism", but I can't help but tell you about the wonderful experience of playing this new After Burner for the first time. A little...

After all these years I still love After Burner. While the large metallic joystick and arcade unit might be dust in the ether (actually there's the original arcade unit I remember for sale on eBay now) I'm at a point where I can't walk past my PSP...

After Burner: Black Falcon

Black Falcon is a brilliant title for a system crying out for nuggets of accessible gaming suited to portable play.

After Burner: Black Falcon

This one can be a bit of a maverick

At least the premise – climb into the cockpit, fly off down a relatively narrow play corridor and proceed to shoot everything in the sky, on the land and sea – remains faithful to its ancestry

After Burner: Black Falcon (2007)

Without the stomach-churning hydraulics of the original arcade machine – and restrictive ‘on-rails’ action that forces you down a narrow flight path, without the freedom to explore and choose your own route – After Burner’s PSP debut is at a...

After Burner: Black Falcon (PSP) review

I feel the need, the need for speed"rn

For arcade gameplay that's barely changed at all in the 20 years since the original, After Burner: Black Falcon still feels fresh and thrilling, and the graphical facelift it's been given makes it exciting to watch too.

After Burner : Black Falcon for PSP

A gloriously intense arcade shooter

The landscapes are varied like all typical flight-simulators. The soundtrack offers afew different types of styles that seem to loop infinitely. Afterburner is fun andaddictive, but best played in short bursts. It is one of those games that can truly...

After Burner: Black Falcon

I know Afterburner has been released on home consoles numerous times, but somehow I am unable to recall seeing it anywhere but arcades, where it made its name with its flashy, fast-paced graphics and its slick, expensive arcade case. Just looking at...

Arcade-style action, just like the original ; Decent graphics ; Real-world jets (albeit not very realistically simulated)

A simple on-rails shooter. What is this, 1987

A true sequel to the old After Burner games worthy of the series mantle, but at the same time showing just how dated the series’ gameplay looks today. Unless you still play the old arcade games, this game will feel outdated now.

Flying the unfriendly skies isn't such a good idea.

Afterburner: Black Falcon Sony PSP Review

Great presentation; wicked gameplay; wonderful revitalization of the classic

Multiplayer seems like an afterthought

After Burner: Black Falcon is yet another example by Sega to return a classic franchise to glory. Granted, their track record has been pretty good thus far, with Virtua Tennis, Outrun, and a few other games (aside from the paltry Sonic titles) staying...

After Burner: Black Falcon Review

Sticking close to its arcade game roots, After Burner: Black Falcon is a short but addictive flight combat game for the PSP

Sticking close to its arcade game roots, After Burner: Black Falcon is a short but addictive flight combat game for the PSP. Considerably challenging yet very straightforward, the game doesn't offer enough variety but it still manages to remain...
