I love this game to bits, but my biggest complaint are the controls which is no fault of the game but how the PSP was designed. IMHO, I'd much rather be playing this on a console (I'd easily drop another $10-$15 as a download title for 360/ps3) not...
wonderful soundtrack ; one of the best entries in the Ace Combat series ; attempts some novel and new approaches with the game to make it less of a cookie-cutter title
little on the short side ; game not quite suited for PSP controls

PS2 quality 3d, fun gameplay, customizable planes, fun dogfighting.
Flying with the small thumb analogue stick can be tedious at first, takes some getting used to.

This definately breaks the every day cycle I've become accustomed to, of flying a bunch of passengers from here to there. It's nice to get to get shot at/shoot at stuff once in a while, even if only it's in a game! Fun stuff!
As a real pilot, I can appreciate the attention to detail that went into making this game. The physics of flight are pretty close to the real thing (I knew what to expect the aircraft to do when making steep turns and other maneuvers). Though the...
None so far, I have just begun playing though

Nipped in the nub
What keeps Ace Combat X from getting top marks is the fact that, ironically, it's clearly a PS2 game on the PSP. On a DualShock it would be great. On an analogue nub it isn't. Despite this, it's still a pretty solid game.

Namco's latest locks-on to our hearts
Regrettably, times change, and we change with them. Aeroplanes become less about leather jackets and a highway to the danger zone; more about seatbelts and the aisleway to a grumpy stewardess. Less Tom Cruise shooting bogeys out of the sky and more Tom...
The problem, you see, is we grew up and faced our reality: the closest we'll ever get to dogfighting is throwing a dog down the stairs

On a brighter note, you do get to throw fighter planes around a vast aerial playground with reckless abandon. We know this because we've been playing with preview code

The Ace Combat series is known for delivering great-looking, pick-up-and-play flight combat, featuring lots of authentic real-world jet fighters and surprisingly rich storylines. Thanks to an original story and several key new features, you can now...
Perhaps best of all, Ace Combat X plays surprisingly well on the PSP. Although its visuals aren't quite as slick as in the PS2 installments, it's a remarkably intense action game that you can take with you on the go.

Ace Combat X is an engrossing and intense flight/combat game that never lets up
Ace Combat X is a must-own flight/combat game. It's not just the best PSP has to offer - it's the best any handheld has ever seen. The arcade-style gameplay, deep battles, and rewarding missions are just some of the things that make this game a...

Ace Combat arrives on the PSP, and it's as good as ever.
Nice fighter models; solid multiplayer; great innovations
The PSP nub makes flight feel forced; slowdown and lag stand out during multiplayer

Namco's latest Ace Combat excursion makes the unfriendly skies worth flying.
The sound is equally sufficient. Between the authentic jet noises, the mid-air banter between members of the squadron, and some impressive rock music, the audio experience of Ace Combat remains intact. Players can hear the nervousness of some of the...
That's good- it depicts realism and how dangerous these skies really are. The enemy pilots are also convincing, creating a genuine threat that has to be blown out of the sky.
